Tri-Valley rolls past rival Vikings

HEGINS - Tri-Valley's offense is clicking on all cylinders.

Cale Bruso went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs Thursday as the Dawgs downed backyard rival Williams Valley 12-4 in a Schuylkill League Division II contest.

The victory is the sixth straight for Tri-Valley (6-1, 4-1 D-II), and marked the fourth straight game the Dawgs have scored in double digits. Thursday, Tri-Valley scored all of its runs in the first four innings, finishing with eight walks and taking advantage of seven walks and four Williams Valley errors.

Tyler Lucas added two hits and Devin Masser pitched six strong innings for Tri-Valley, while Ben Rautzahn had two hits and Jarred Matter drove in two runs for the Vikings.

Tamaqua 4 Jim Thorpe 3

TAMAQUA - Zach Coleman and Bo Rottet had run-scoring hits in a three-run sixth inning that lifted the Blue Raiders past the Olympians in a Division I game.

Matt Roberts had two hits for Tamaqua, which stayed unbeaten in Division I play.

Jordan McElmoyle collected three hits for Jim Thorpe, including an RBI single in the seventh inning that sliced the lead to one. Winning pitcher Ian Nicholls pitched out of the jam, as the Olympians stranded two baserunners.

Shenandoah Valley 7 Mahanoy Area 0

SHENANDOAH - Ian McCole tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out 11 to lead the Blue Devils over Mahanoy Area for their first Division II victory.

Helped by four Mahanoy Area errors in the game, Shenandoah Valley scored three unearned runs in the first two innings. The Blue Devils added four runs, including one on Nick Krusinsky's single and two on Derek Dombrowski's double, in the sixth.

Marian 17 Weatherly 6

WEATHERLY - Luke Stawick went 3-for-4, slugged a pair of home runs and collected six RBIs to lead Marian to a five-inning Division II romp over the Wreckers.

Stawick homered during Marian's five-run first inning and hit a three-run homer as Marian ensured the mercy-rule triumph with nine runs in the fifth. Pete Baddick added a home run, single, three runs and three RBIs for the Colts.

Marian pitcher Logan Mehalshick scattered five hits, including two by the Wreckers' Luke Figas.

Hamburg 8 Twin Valley 2

ELVERSON - Ryan Atkinson hit a two-run home run in the first inning as the Hawks (8-1, 3-1 Berks II) won a first-place duel with the host Raiders (4-1, 2-1).

Hamburg capitalized on 10 walks and several Twin Valley errors.
