HAMBURG - Tamaqua and Hamburg completed a suspended non-league baseball game Wednesday as the extra-inning game went even longer before Tamaqua came away with a 7-6 triumph in 15 innings.
The teams, tied 6-6 after 11 innings when their game was suspended May 1, played three more shutout innings before Tamaqua (16-7) got the winning run in the 15th.
Matt Roberts led off the top of the 15th inning with a triple, and after consecutive intentional walks to Brett Kosciolek and Daylon Barron, scored on Matt Minchhoff's sacrifice fly.
With the loss, Hamburg dropped to 16-5 this season.
Bo Rottet and Roberts each posted five hits for Tamaqua in the 15-inning game. Roberts finished with three extra-base hits and three RBIs, while Rottet pitched the 15th to save the win for Kosciolek, who tossed three innings.
Ryan Atkinson, who relieved in the eighth inning during the first meeting, resumed his work Wednesday and took the loss.
H.S. Softball Mahanoy Area 5 MMI 1
MAHANOY CITY - Erin Davidson and winning pitcher Emily Bruce each had two hits to lead Mahanoy Area to a non-league victory over MMI.
In addition to her hits, Bruce helped her cause by striking out 11 MMI batters and tossing six shutout innings to begin the game.
Jamie Rago added a double to the Golden Bears' offensive attack.
Mahanoy Area, which faces Weatherly today, bunched its runs from the second through fourth innings.
The Golden Bears need to defeat Weatherly today to reach the .500 mark and qualify for the District 11 Class A playoffs. Mahanoy Area has won six of its last seven games.
