MAHANOY CITY - Mahanoy Area's softball team qualified Thursday for the District 11 Class A playoffs by taking its second victory in two days, a 20-11 slugfest over Weatherly in a Schuylkill League Division III game.
Winning for the seventh time in the last eight games, the Golden Bears, who finish at the .500 mark, scored 15 runs in the third inning to erase Weatherly's 8-3 lead.
In a game which featured 20 walks, seven hit batsmen and eight errors by the two teams, Mahanoy Area was led by Nicole Wilner, who had two singles, a double, a triple and eight runs batted in. Marcella Scheeler added two singles while winning pitcher Kelly Walinchus doubled and Erin Davidson tripled.

ELIZABETHVILLE - In a matchup of 11-2 league records, Kate Boyer scored both runs and Upper Dauphin spoiled a no-hitter by Millersburg pitcher Marlo Roadcap to beat the Indians and clinch the Tri-Valley League championship for the third straight year.
Moyer reached on an error in the second inning and scored on Kendra Schlegel's grounder.
In the seventh, Boyer walked and, while she was bunted to second base by Kaytee Mattern, continued to third when no one covered it. Seeing Roadcap take the bunt and throw it out of play, Moyer was awarded home plate.
Winning pitcher Amber Bingaman struck out eight and tossed a three-hitter.
Millersburg scored its run on a passed ball.
