Big Diamond cancels show Weber helps USF win NCAA opener Miller places 5th in AAA javelin

FORESTVILLE - Big Diamond Speedway canceled Friday's scheduled Ken's Tire Night program of DIRTcar 358 modifieds, Jeremy Slifko Fabrication Services sportsmen and Savage 61 roadrunners because of rain.

Five of the track's 10 scheduled programs so far this season have been canceled because of inclement weather.

The track will conduct a program of 358 modifieds, roadrunners and the American Racing Drivers Club midgets at 8:15 p.m. next Friday night.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Tri-Valley graduate Juli Weber went 1-for-4 with a run scored Friday as the University of South Florida defeated South Carolina 6-0 in the first game of the NCAA Division I Softball Tallahassee Regional.

Batting leadoff and playing center field, Weber (.358 batting average) singled to start the game but was stranded. She reached on a fielder's choice and scored in the fifth inning.

Lee Ann Spivey hit a solo home run, while Sara Nevins and Erica Nunn combined on a three-hit shutout for the Bulls.

South Florida (42-15) advances to face Florida State (51-6), which defeated Fordham (36-19), 6-1.

The winners' bracket game is scheduled for noon today and will be televised on ESPN.

SHIPPENSBURG - Hamburg's Cody Miller took fifth place in the Class AAA boys' discus toss Friday at the District 3 Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.

Miller posted a throw of 144 feet, 10 inches for his place in the event won by Warwick's David Lucas, who threw 163-10.

Upper Dauphin's Colleen Troutman qualified for today's final in the 100-meter dash with a semifinal time of 12.93 seconds after she ran 12.69 in the preliminaries.

Troutman will be seeded sixth in the eight-girl final.
