Tamaqua wins D-18 opener

FREELAND - Michael Minchhoff, Emma Kuczynski and Emily Titus homered as Tamaqua cruised past Freeland 11-0 in four innings Friday on the opening night of the District 18 Little League 11-12-Year-Old Tournament.

Kuczynski smacked a two-run shot in the first inning as Tamaqua jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

In the second inning, Minchhoff delivered a two-run homer, while Titus' solo shot powered a six-run third inning.

On the mound, Nate Boyle pitched three innings, while Minchhoff came on in relief to finish off a two-hit shutout.

Boyle helped himself with two hits; Cody Hamm and Titus added two apiece for Tamaqua.

With the win, Tamaqua advances in the winners' bracket and will visit White Haven at 6 p.m. Monday.

Freeland drops into the losers' bracket and will play Wednesday against the winner of Monday's Franklin Township at West Hazleton contest.

Legion Baseball Wyomissing 4 Hamburg 2

WYOMISSING - Daniel Richardson singled, doubled and tripled to help the Angels defeat the Reds in a Schuylkill-Berks Legion League South Division game.

Ryan Atkinson had two hits, a double and a solo home run, for Hamburg. Jake Leinkewicz went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Reds.
