It's safe to say there isn't a dominant team in the North Division of the Schuylkill-Berks Legion League.
And with the postseason just a week away, it could make for an interesting playoff tournament.
Friday, the two teams tied for first place in the North Division standings, Pine Grove and Schuylkill Valley, were both upset by teams that entered the day with just three victories.
The Grovers (7-5) were knocked off by Valley View 6-1, while Schuylkill Valley (7-6) saw a late lead evaporate in a 5-4 loss to Minersville.
Southern Area could have moved into a three-way tie for first place with a victory over Pottsville, but that score wasn't reported.
Valley View 6 Pine Grove 1
VALLEY VIEW - Hunter Bordner tossed a five-hitter and struck out 10 and Jarred Matter had three hits as the West Enders upended the Grovers at Valley View Park.
Trailing 1-0, Valley View took control with a five-run fifth inning. Matter had a two-run double and Dennis Jansen had a two-run single in the frame. C.J. Steinhilber gave the West Enders an insurance run in the sixth with he tripled and scored on a throwing error.
Nick Cataldo had two hits for Pine Grove.
Minersville 5 Schuylkill Valley 4
MINERSVILLE - Dave Pedron's RBI single capped a three-run, bottom-of-the-seventh rally that lifted Minersville to a victory over the Falcons.
Schuylkill Valley took a 4-2 lead into the seventh as Tom Gallagher had held the Miners (4-6) to just four hits. Gallagher and Jeff Yordy paced the Falcons' nine-hit attack with two hits apiece.
Ryan King opened the Miners' seventh with a walk, and Zack Brown singled to put runners at second and third. Luke Heffron delivered a two-run single to tie the game, and Matt Roberts walked.
Yordy relieved Gallagher, and intentionally walked John Rupinski to load the bases. Pedron followed with his single up the middle to win it.
Junior Legion Southern Area 7 Daniel Boone 6
AUBURN - Cheyenne Wesley hit a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning to lift the A's to victory in a Schuylkill-Berks Junior Legion League game at Auburn Memorial Park.
Blayne Moyer blasted two home runs and finished with three RBIs for Southern Area.
District 24 Little League 10-11-year-olds Cressona 13 Minersville 3
CRESSONA - Carter Thompson and Brody Robinson each delivered two-run triples as Cressona defeated Minersville in a four-inning Pool 1 game.
Thompson, Gavin Bartholomew, Cody Miller and Kegan Hertz each had two hits for Cressona, which scored four runs in the second, six in the third and three in the fourth.
Connor Denion, Brett Chikotas and Koda Whalen had singles for Minersville.
Upper Dauphin 21 Schuylkill Haven 1
GRATZ - Nathan Wise was 2-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs as UDC routed Schuylkill Haven in a four-inning Pool 2 game.
Wise hit his grand slam in the fourth inning, while winning pitcher Mason Evans hit a two-run homer in UDC's seven-run third inning. Zachary Smeltz and Holden Stiely each went 3-for-5 as UDC collected 17 hits.
Jake Houtz had a pair of hits, including a double, for Schuylkill Haven.
District 18 Little League 11-12-year-olds Valley East 6 Tamaqua 5
TAMAQUA - Tamaqua suffered its first loss of the District 18 Little League 11-12-year-old Tournament as Valley East advanced to the winners' bracket final.
Tamaqua drops into the losers' bracket with the defeat and will host Valley West, a 17-0 winner over Freeland, in an elimination game Sunday. Should Tamaqua prevail, it would then play Tuesday against either Jim Thorpe or Franklin Township.
Only six teams remain in the double-elimination tournament. Valley East and Towamensing are the only unbeatens and will play Monday in the winners' bracket final.
