EUGENE, Ore. - Tamaqua graduate Christine Streisel and North Schuylkill alum Brendan Shearn competed at the USATF Junior (under 20) National Championships held July 5-6 at historic Hayward Field.

Streisel, who currently attends Duke University, finished fifth in the women's javelin with a top throw of 147 feet, 6 inches.

Shearn, who attends the University of Pennsylvania, placed second in the 10,000 meters in 30:55, just behind winner Jonathon Green of Georgetown (30:54).

By placing second, Shearn earned the right to represent Team USA in the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held July 22-27 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. With athletes from 177 countries scheduled to participate, it will be the largest IAAF meet ever held on U.S. soil.
