FRIEDENSBURG - The top seeds in each of the three flights of this weekend's Schuylkill County Amateur Golf Match-Play Championship reached the semifinals unscathed.
The other golfers seeded near the top of their bracket weren't so lucky.
Jim Rattigan of Deer Lake, Clair Rummel Jr. of Saint Clair and Jordan Stabinsky of Schuylkill Haven will lead their respective flights into today's semifinals after going undefeated in the opening rounds Saturday at Hidden Valley Golf Course.
Rattigan defeated No. 16 Mike Seasock 6 and 4 and edged No. 9 Luke Morgan 2 and 1 to advance in the Championship Flight.
He'll play No. 5 Bob Hillibush of Mahanoy City in one semifinal after Hillibush topped No. 12 Ryan Rhody 2 and 1 and defeated No. 4 James Bromwell 1-up.
The other semifinal in the Championship Flight will pit No. 7 Steve Rice of Orwigsburg against No. 11 Mike Kacelowicz. Rice beat No. 10 Tyler Marcotte 4 and 2 before upsetting No. 2 Sean Misstishin 2 and 1. Kacelowicz downed No. 6 Kevin Richards before beating No. 14 Tyler Cook, both by 4 and 2 scores.
In A Flight, Rummel advanced with a 2 and 1 victory over No. 16 Justin Snyder and a 1-up win over No. 8 Fred Krute. Rummel will square off against fifth-seeded Bailey Sophy, a Blue Mountain junior, who defeated No. 12 Gary Metza 3 and 2 and No. 4 Tim Swain 8 and 7.
The other semifinal in A Flight has No. 7 Joe Welsh of Pottsville facing No. 11 Zac Coulson of Minersville.
Welsh defeated No. 10 Brent Jones 4 and 2 before nipping No. 2 Chris Spittle 1-up on the 19th hole. Coulson beat No. 6 Scott Kacelowicz 1-up and defeated No. 3 Chris Decker 2-up.
The eight-golfer B Flight played just one round Saturday, with Stabinsky, Jonathan Evans of Muir, John Worthy of Schuylkill Haven and Dave Blasko of Schuylkill Haven advancing.
The semifinal in all three flights will be held this morning, starting at 7:12 a.m. The championship matches will follow in the afternoon, beginning at noon.
