HEGINS - And then there were none.
Kobe Brish hit a three-run triple as part of a five-run second inning as Schuylkill South rolled past Schuylkill West 12-4 in the Area 2 Teener 13-14-year-old All-Star Tournament on Thursday at Hegins Park.
The West entered the game undefeated, but now is tied with the South atop the standings at 2-1 after the first round of games. Schuylkill East (1-2) picked up its first win of the tournament Thursday with a 12-7 victory over Schuylkill North (1-2).
The second round of games involving the teams begins today, and the tournament concludes Saturday with a pair of contests featuring all four teams.
The tournament winner will compete in the VFW State Tournament on July 25-28 in Clearfield.
The South collected 13 hits in Thursday's win as Nick Kreiser, Brandon Schaeffer, Jake Luckenbill and Austin Ney had two apiece. Ney led off the second inning with a triple and had an RBI double in the seventh, while Dawson Evitts added a double.
Brish's bases-clearing triple in the second made it 5-0. He tried to score for an inside-the-park home run but was thrown out at home.
After the five-run second, the South added a single run in the third, and three apiece in the fourth and seventh.
Schaeffer pitched the first five innings to get the win.
Ike Lucas doubled for the Schuylkill West, which scored a run in the third and three in fourth.
Schuylkill East 12 Schuylkill North 7
MIDDLEPORT - Kevin McKeon had two hits and drove in four runs to lead Schuylkill East to a victory over Schuylkill North at Schuylkill Valley Stadium.
McKeon had a two-run single in the second inning that gave the East the lead for good at 5-4. He also hit a two-run double in the fifth.
Bradley Clemson and Aiden Stanton added two hits apiece for the East.
Max Nolter had three hits for the North, including a double, while Mason Stokes added a double.
