UDC stays alive

BLOOMSBURG - Upper Dauphin County took a beating in its Section 3 Little League 10-11-year-old Tournament opener Thursday.

UDC then turned in one of its own Friday to keep its title hopes alive.

Nathan Wise and Connor Grow drove in five runs apiece, while Holden Stiely, Bryce Herb and Mikey Myers combined on a no-hitter to lead Upper Dauphin County to a 25-0, four-inning rout of Sullivan County in an elimination game.

Upper Dauphin lost its opener 12-1 to South Columbia in five innings Thursday to drop to the losers' bracket. South Columbia beat Keystone 10-0 in Friday's winners' bracket game.

Upper Dauphin takes on Keystone in an elimination game at 2 p.m. today. The winner faces South Columbia for the championship Sunday. If a deciding game is needed, it will be Monday.

Upper Dauphin wasted no time Friday, jumping out for seven runs in the first inning. The big hit was a two-run homer by Mason Evans that made it 3-0. Jacob Herman, Grow and Wise added RBIs in the inning.

Upper Dauphin added five more runs in the second and 14 in the third.

Wise and Herman were both 3-for-3 in the game, with Wise driving in four runs. Tyler Cleveland, Stiely, Grow and Myers added two hits apiece, while Cleveland and Myers had two RBIs apiece.

Stiely pitched the first inning, Herb the second and Myers the third and fourth.

BLOOMSBURG - Bryce Herb drove in Zach Smeltz with Upper Dauphin's only run in the fourth inning during its opening-round loss to South Columbia.

Nathan Wise and Jesse Engle had two hits apiece for Upper Dauphin, while Jacob Herman had a double.

South Columbia scored a run in every inning but the third, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after two.
