MIDDLEPORT - Ashton Buchanan pitched a complete game, while Logan Yoder, Dawson Maurer and Ike Lucas had three hits apiece as Schuylkill West downed Schuylkill East 11-5 during the Area 2 Teener 13-14-year-old Tournament on Friday at Schuylkill Valley Stadium.
With its win, the West (3-1) remain tied for first in the standings with Schuylkill South (3-1), which beat Schuylkill North 11-9 on Friday. The tournament concludes today with each team playing a pair of games.
If the West and South win their morning contests, they will play for the title at 5 p.m. at Schuylkill Haven.
The winner advances to the VFW State Tournament on July 25-28 in Clearfield.
Buchanan allowed eight hits, struck out three and walked two.
Yoder scored three times and drove in two runs, while Maurer also had two RBIs and Lucas stole three bases.
Bradley Clemson was 2-for-4 and two RBIs for Schuylkill East, while Zach Osty was 2-for-2.
Schuylkill South 11 Schuylkill North 9
FRACKVILLE - Nick Kreiser had three hits, while Schuylkill South used a six-run fourth inning to take the lead for good in its victory over Schuylkill North at Memorial Park.
Dawson Evitts had the only other hit in the game for Schuylkill South, which took advantage of 11 walks in the game by four North pitchers.
Max Nolter had three hits and Brandon Rockwell two for the North, which took a 7-4 lead in the game with a seven-run bottom of the third.
