H. S. FOOTBALL: Tri-Valley wins opener

MILLERSBURG — Anthony Snyder scored two touchdowns and Tri-Valley scored the game’s final 12 points to pull away to a 31-14 season-opening victory over Millersburg in a Tri-Valley League game Friday.

Snyder scored on runs of 29 and 10 yards after Tri-Valley had tallied touchdowns on Deven Schwalm’s 20-yard fumble return and Jaden Buchanan’s 20-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Harter.

Millersburg scored the opening touchdown of the fourth period on the second scoring toss by quarterback Christian Wingard, but Tri-Valley’s Danny Scheib and Snyder scored consecutive touchdowns to enable the Bulldogs to pull away.

COAL TOWNSHIP — Tucker Yost, the Indians’ senior quarterback, scored the game’s only touchdown early in the second quarter, going untouched on a 57-yard option keeper for what proved to be the winning points in a victory over Line Mountain.

The win snapped a 14-game losing streak that dated back to the middle of the 2012 season.

The victory was also the first for head coach Pat DiRienzo in his first game as the Indians’ head man.

ELIZABETHVILLE — Cole Reed rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns, but Upper Dauphin surrendered 43 points in the first half and lost to visiting Camp Hill in both teams’ opener.

Reed scored on runs of 1, 10 and 2 yards for the Trojans. Tanner Miller added a 62-yard touchdown reception for Upper Dauphin, which scored the game’s final 20 points.

Camp Hill gained three touchdowns, including a 46-yard interception return from Michael Hope. Quarterback Michael Hoak Shuster tossed four touchdown passes, two to Hope.
