Schuylkill teams excel at YHEC meet
Jake Dinger, Cole Rumpf, Tyler Weller and Justin Weller of the Friedensburg Fish and Game Coal Region Youth Hunter Education Challenge team and team member Lenny Young of Clinton County placed fourth in the Senior Division at the 29th International YHEC Challenge held recently in Mansfield. This was the highest finish for any Pennsylvania team in the competition that drew entries from 16 states.
Weller earned a silver medal in orienteering.
In the Junior Division, 19 states were represented and the Pine Grove YHEC Wombats placed eighth in their first-ever international competition. Their best showing as a team was a second-place finish in .22 rifle. Shane Martin also earned a bronze medal in shotgun.
In the Senior Division, Dallas Hackman Jr. was a member of the Pennsylvania Blue Team that placed fifth. Its best showing was a gold medal in wildlife identification. It also took a bronze medal in shotgun.

Area trapping course deadline Sept. 8
The Pennsylvania Game Commission will hold an approved Basic Trapping Course on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Auburn Game and Fish Association Clubhouse, located on River Road, one-half mile off Route 895, off Fort Lebanon Road, Auburn. The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 8.
Presented by members of Pennsylvania Trappers Association District 11, this free course is open to all ages and includes lunch, but youth must have parental consent and all participants must pre-register by contacting Brian Mohn at (610) 562-1790 or emailing papatrees@aol.com.
