Golden lifts Tide to Cardinal Classic title

PINE GROVE — Shea Golden struck in the 41st minute to give Pottsville the only goal it needed to get past host Pine Grove and win the Cardinal Classic championship game 1-0.

Tyler Wright recorded a hat trick for the Crimson Tide in their 6-0 win over Wilson in the preliminary round.

Golden also earned three assists in the victory over Wilson.

Pine Grove topped Northern Lebanon 2-0 in its first game, with Marcus Brown picking up a 3rd-minute goal and assisting on Zach Tritt’s goal in the 58th.

Northern Lebanon beat Wilson 2-0 in the consolation game.

Hurricanes, D­awgs

go 1-2 at Millersburg

MILLERSBURG — Schuylkill Haven and Tri-Valley both finished 1-2 at the Millersburg Tournament.

The two teams met early in the morning with Tri-Valley beating Haven 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw.

Cole Smeltz, Ben Hinkel, Hunter Snyder and Bryce Yearsley scored in the shootout for the Bulldogs. Justin Gerber and Luis Taylor and Brandon Edelman tallied PKs for the Hurricanes.

Hinkel scored on a penalty during the second half and assisted on Yearsley’s goal later in the frame.

Blake Handling and Tyler Yeakel scored during regulation for the Hurricanes. Dawson Evitts assisted on both goals.

The Hurricanes then beat Upper Dauphin 1-0 before falling to tournament champion Millersburg, which finished undefeated.

Tri-Valley dropped a 4-1 decision to Millersburg before Upper Dauphin got the upperhand on the Dawgs 4-2 on penalty kicks after a 3-3 stalemate.

Smeltz and Hinkel again came through for Tri-Valley in the shootout. Kaleb Hoch, Jordan Gessner, Joey Trently and Calen Reigner scored from the dot for Upper Dauphin.

TAMAQUA — Josh Delp had two goals and an assist to help lift the Blue Raiders over Nativity in a non-league game.

Roberto Borrero, who added a goal and two assists for Tamaqua, and Delp notched the first two goals before Nativity’s Cullen Hoppel and Christian Vasquez tied the game.

Chris Miller and Ben Miller each scored to put the Raiders back up by two before Delp’s final strike.

in Eubert Memorial

ORWIGSBURG — Blue Mountain topped Brandywine Heights 2-1 in the consolation game of the Jon Eubert Memorial Tournament after falling to Kutztown 4-0 in Game 1.

Scott Cox and Christian Tobash tallied goals for the Eagles in the consolation victory.

Led by Pierre Reedy’s two goals, Kutztown won the tournament championship 2-0 over Whitehall.

Reedy also scored two goals and recorded an assist in the win over the Eagles.

Whitehall earned a 4-1 victory over Brandywine Heights to reach the championship.
