Chris Palubinsky's high school baseball career didn't have the notoriety his football career did.
His baseball career, however, has something his football career didn't.
A first-team All-State honor.
The recent Shenandoah Valley graduate was named Monday to the Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association Class A first team as an outfielder.
It's the second straight year Palubinsky was honored by the PHSBCA, as he was a first-team pick in Class AA as a junior.
Palubinsky is one of three Schuylkill League players to earn first-team honors, as Pine Grove catcher Steve Zimmerman and Minersville third baseman Aaron Fritz were selected to the Class AA squad.
Six other Schuylkill League players were picked to their respective second teams - Tri-Valley's Devin Masser and Dalton Miller, Marian's Peter Baddick and Frank Nietz and Nativity's Bryar White in Class A, and North Schuylkill's Matt Smarkanic in Class AA.
Sponsored by Nine Baseball, the PHSBCA All-State teams are selected through nominations and voting done by association coaches.
Palubinsky, who will attend Bloomsburg University this fall to play football, was a four-year starter at quarterback in football, finishing as the Blue Devils' career passing leader with 5,391 yards.
He led the Blue Devils to three straight playoff appearances, including the 2010 Eastern Conference Class A crown, and broke the school's single-season passing yardage record by throwing for 2,155 yards with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last fall.
A three-sport standout in football, basketball and baseball, Palubinsky has also shined on the baseball diamond the past two seasons for Shenandoah Valley.
As a junior, Palubinsky tied with
Weatherly's Brian Maiello for the Schuylkill League batting title with a .547 (29-for-53) average, with 20 runs scored, four homers and 15 RBIs.
This spring, Palubinsky was eighth in the league in hitting at .426 (26-for-61) with 17 runs scored, 12 RBIs, eight doubles and five homers. He was named to The Republican-Herald All-Area first team and the Anthracite Baseball Coaches Association Division II first team as an outfielder.
Zimmerman, a junior, hit .373 (22-for-59) for the Cardinals with 11 runs scored, 27 RBIs, six doubles and five homers as Pine Grove reached the District 11 Class AA semifinals. Zimmerman was named to the Pennsylvania team for the Big 26 Baseball Classic, which will be held July 26-28 in Harrisburg.
Fritz was a PHSBCA Class AA first-team pick as a catcher in 2012 as a sophomore. This spring, Fritz was fourth in the league in hitting at .466 (27-for-58) with 22 runs scored, 15 RBIs, three doubles and two homers as Minersville reached the Schuylkill League semifinals. 2013 Pennsylvania High School Baseball Coaches Association All-State Teams
