SCRANTON — Penn State Schuylkill placed four players in double figures and held off Penn State Worthington Scranton in the second half for a 66-63 victory Monday in a Penn State University Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.
North Schuylkill graduate Dominique Grasso posted a season-best 16 points, including four 3-pointers, for the local Lions. She added five steals and three rebounds.
Schuylkill Haven graduate Sarah Celani added a season-high 10 points for PSU-Schuylkill, which added 13 and 12 points respectively by freshmen Colleen Druby and Tessa Dolce.
Penn State Schuylkill took a 32-23 halftime lead before PSU-Worthington Scranton scored 40 points in the second half to draw within three points at the finish.
Sara Moss led the host team with 23 points while Kayla Cavanaugh added 20 and Audrey Wargowsky contributed 15.
Penn State Worthington Scranton shot 11-for-11 from 3-point range while PSU-Schuylkill converted all seven attempts from long range.
The game was the opener of a doubleheader.
The Penn State Schuylkill men attempted to secure their first victory of the season in the nightcap against Penn State Worthington Scranton. The score was not available by press time.
The teams were meeting for the second time this season. Penn State Worthington Scranton had taken a 72-58 win in the teams’ first game.
