BLOOMSBURG — Moving eight into the semifinals, Pottsville climbed into first place Friday night after the opening rounds of the Darren Klingerman Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Bloomsburg High School.
Ryan Green (106), Richie Bentz (120), Brian Farrell (126), Luke Gardner (132), Nathan Cromyak (138), Tyler Deiter (152), Brandon Kessock (170) and Kolby Kleckner (182) advanced for the Crimson Tide, who have three wrestlers alive in the consolations.
Pottsville compiled 86 points to lead the 16-team field. Bloomsburg (66) is second, followed by Troy (58.5), Warrior Run (56) and Montgomery (48). Williams Valley (46) is sixth and Pine Grove (45) seventh.
Four other area teams had three semifinalists apiece:
• Williams Valley — Willie Girard (113), Alex Raho (126) and Ian Minnich (285);
• Schuylkill Haven — Austin Engle (120), Preston Gehring (132) and Trevyn Fessler (152);
• Pine Grove — Danny Diaz-Walton (132), Scott Aungst (170) and Josh Phillippy (182);
• Mount Carmel — Blake Panko (160), Allen Yancoskie (195) and Wes Shurock (220).
For Tamaqua, Tanner McHugh (126) and Dylan Rynkiewicz (145) also reached the semifinals.
The semifinals are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., followed by the consolation finals at 1:30 p.m. and the championship finals at 4.

QUARRYVILLE — Blue Mountain’s Hunter Blankenhorn (120), Christian Gosch (145), Lucas Forbes (152), Ian Cagle (170) and Erech Noecker (220) reached the semifinals at the Solanco Mule Classic. Six Eagles are alive in the consolations.

Sarah Corse-Campion won two individual events and swam on two winning relays as the Crimson Tide topped the Indians at Ned Hampford Natatorium.
Corse-Campion won the 100 fly and 100 back, while Madeline Consugar took first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Taylor Young (200 IM), Megan Berdanier (50 freestyle) and Katie Deegan (100 free) added individual wins for Pottsville.

Josh Marx, Charlie Botto, Tanner Steinhart and Nick Kerby each won an individual event and swam on two winning relays as the Crimson Tide downed the Indians in a non-league meet at the Ned Hampford Natatorium.
Kerby won the 200 freestyle, Marx placed first in the 50 freestyle, Botto took top honors in the 100 backstroke and Steinhart hit the wall first in the 100 breaststroke. Michael Smerlick (200 IM), Michael Logothetides (100 fly) and Jacob Spece (500 free) added individual wins for Pottsville, which swept the relays.
