HS Swimming: Tamaqua's DeCindio reaches 1,000 points

TAMAQUA — It was a grand night for Tamaqua’s Danielle DeCindio.

The Blue Raider senior topped the 1,000-point mark for her career in Thursday’s Schuylkill League girls’ swimming dual meet against Schuylkill Haven.

The seventh girls’ swimmer in Tamaqua school history to reach 1,000, DeCindio won the 100 butterfly and helped the Raiders’ 200 medley relay team to victory.

Schuylkill Haven (4-5, 3-3 SL) won the meet 97-69 as Allison Adams (50 free, 100 back) and Mary Zimmerman (200 free, 100 free) captured two individual events and teamed with Taylor Felty and Elizabeth Bayliff to win two relays.

Felty added an individual win in the 500 freestyle.

Rebecca Kanaskie (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) was a double-winner for Tamaqua (2-10, 0-7), while Emma Rago took diving.

MAHANOY CITY — Noel Bernardyn (50 free, 500 free) won a pair of events and participated on the winning 200 medley relay as the Golden Bears (4-3) routed the Red Tornadoes in a non-league meet.

Raquel Burke (200 free), Payton Bernardyn (50 free), Jessica Knapp (100 fly), Jacqui Pitts (100 free), Kiera Van Horn (100 back) and Leah Van Horn (100 breast) added victories as the Golden Bears swept all 11 events.

TAMAQUA — Hunter Romberger (200 IM), Ian McGowan (50 free), Sam Brennan (500 free) and Joe Brennan (100 breast) each won events as the Hurricanes (5-4, 3-3) outlasted the Blue Raiders in a Schuylkill League meet.

McGowan, Sam Brennan, Joe Brennan and Connor Raymond swept all three relays for Schuylkill Haven.

Jeff Letterhouse (100 free, 100 back) won twice for Tamaqua (1-11, 0-7), while Andrew Castagna (200 free), Thorn Devlin (diving) and Ben Turrano (100 fly) added individual victories.

MAHANOY CITY — Joseph Antolick (200 free, 100 fly) won two events and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay as the Golden Bears (3-4) trumped the Red Tornadoes in a non-league meet.

Noah Noon (50 free), Evan McKenzie (100 free), Liam Mansell (500 free), Brandon Hullihan (100 back) and Kristopher Boxter (100 breaststroke) added wins for Mahanoy Area, which placed first in all 10 contested events.
