BEDFORD — Tri-Valley and North Schuylkill came ready to wrestle Friday on the opening day of the Thomas Subaru Wrestling Tournament at Bedford High School.
The Bulldogs advanced six wrestlers to the semifinals to rise to second in the team standings of the 29-team event.
Meanwhile, North Schuylkill produced four semifinalists to tie for fourth with West Branch with 78 points.
Chestnut Ridge leads the standings with 107.5 points with six semifinalists and four in the consolations. Tri-Valley (91) is second and Greenville (85) is third.
Caleb Bordner (120), Sammy Hepler (126), Chase Schaeffer (145), Anthony Snyder (152), Hunter Harner (160) advanced to the semifinals for the Dawgs.
Bordner, a No. 1 seed, was especially efficient, registering falls in 1:01 and 1:09.
Hepler also had a pair of falls to advance.
Schaeffer, the top seed at 145, earned a 29-second pin and a 12-4 major decision over Cambria Heights’ Austin Gill.
After squeaking by with a 3-1 win over No. 15 Jon Heming of Chestnut Ridge in the preliminaries, Scheib decked Claysburg-Kimmel’s Tyler Elder in 5:13 in the quarterfinals.
Kyle Stephen (113) is alive in the wrestlebacks.
For the Spartans, Owen Boyer (106), Mason Madden-Edwards (113), Alek Hummel (195) and Nate Gadinski (285) earned spots in the semifinals.
Boyer, the No. 5 seed, pulled a mild upset, downing No. 4 Devin Wilhelm of Northern Garrett 7-2.
Madden-Edwards looked strong with a 20-4 technical fall and 10-2 major decision.
After a 64-second fall in the preliminaries, the second-seeded Gadinski edged No. 7 Kyle Peterson of Everett 1-0 in the quarterfinals.
Shane McGrath (120), Jess Wetzel (132), Brady Mickatavage (170), C.J. Steinhilber (182) and Dane Tarantelli (220) represent the Spartans in the wrestlebacks.

WYOMISSING — Ignacio Reynoso (182) posted a fall as Hamburg (12-5) lost to Governor Mifflin in the BCIAA Team Tournament semifinals.
Governor Mifflin won the title, defeating Exeter 35-25.
