PSU-Schuylkill hires coaches
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Penn State Schuylkill has announced the hiring of head coaches for two winter programs.
Brett Matukewicz, who has been an assistant coach at Pottsville High Scool for the past two seasons, has been named the head coach of the new Penn State Schuylkill wrestling program.
Charles Killian, who had coached in the Blue Mountain High School boys’ and girls’ basketball programs for 26 years, has been named the new women’s basketball head coach.
The moves were announced by John Cooper, director of athletics.
Matukewicz will direct a program that will compete as a varsity sport in the Penn State University Athletic Conference for the first time next fall.
“It is going to be an exciting journey to coach in the best wrestling state in the country,” said Matukewicz, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.
Killian, an Auburn resident and Blue Mountain graduate, succeeds interim head coach Darle Cresswell, who led PSU Schuylkill to a 9-9 record, 6-8 in the PSUAC, in his lone season at the helm.
