MAHANOY CITY — Bethany Shaud pitched a two-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Marian past Mahanoy Area 5-2 on Tuesday in a Schuylkill League Division III game.
The Fillies capitalized on Mahanoy Area miscues in a three-run sixth inning that snapped a 2-2 tie.
Mackenzie Joy’s two-run single in the first inning put Marian ahead, but the Golden Bears answered in the fourth on a two-run single by Tamara Tunstall.
The Fillies used a few fielding miscues and passed balls in the sixth to regain the lead.
Joy finished with three of Marian’s 11 hits. Alex Stroia, Nicole Salerno and Miranda Antiga added two apiece.

Three North Schuylkill players hit home runs as Chase Stokes connected for a two-run homer in the first, Rachel Gricoski, who finished with five RBIs, added a three-run shot in the second and Alex Morgan contributed a two-run homer in the fourth.

MINERSVILLE — Lindsey Snyder, Maura Bentz and Alli Polinsky led an 18-hit attack with three apiece as the Miners hammered the Hurricanes in a five-inning Division II contest.
Adrienne Kroznuskie, Emily Mealey and Abby Schoffstall added two hits apiece for Minersville. Snyder drove in four runs, including a two-run triple in the second inning.
Kroznuskie and Polinsky also doubled.
Bentz went the distance in the circle, striking out nine and walking four. Three of those walks came to the first three batters of the game.

In the opener, Taryn Wilson went 3-for-3 with a triple, two home runs and four RBIs, while Cat Troutman was 2-for-2 with a grand slam in the second inning and five RBIs.
Wilson and Alexa Romberger combined for a perfect game in the second game as Maddie Horn went 2-for-2 with two home runs, including a second-inning grand slam, and five RBIs.
