Local softball roundup for April 17, 2015

PINE GROVE — Taylor Fritz’s groundout in the top of the seventh inning sent home the go-ahead run as Tamaqua rallied and held off Pine Grove 3-2 for a Schuylkill League Division I triumph Friday afternoon.

Bailey Pedersen led off with a single, then a hit batter and a bunt that stayed fair loaded the bases for Lynn Kistler’s RBI single. Shayna Dietrich followed with an RBI groundout before Fritz knocked in the winning run.

Pine Grove took a 2-0 lead when Mackenzie Hasenauer and Hayley Wolff each hit RBI singles.

Trailing 3-2 with one out in the seventh, Pine Grove got a single before Pedersen recorded a strikeout for the second out. Hasenauer followed with a hot shot to the hole. The ball hit the baserunner to end the game.

Emma Schweigert backed Svenson at the plate with a two-run home run in the second inning. She finished with four RBIs. Megan Ditzler added a two-run triple in the frame.

Kendra Boris went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs for the Crimson Tide. Her two-run single in the fourth inning gave Pottsville breathing room at 6-0.
