HS BASEBALL: Wyomissing hands Haven its 1st loss

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — And then there were none.

Kenny Rodriguez and Ledwin Nunez combined on a two-hitter as Wyomissing handed Schuylkill Haven its first loss of the season with a 3-1, non-league victory Saturday.

The Hurricanes (11-1) were the area’s last unbeaten baseball team.

Sam DeBelle went 2-for-3 for the Spartans (4-6), who scored two runs in the third and another in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead.

The Hurricanes scored their run in the sixth when Ryan Fink doubled and eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk by Tyler Browne. Haven left the bases loaded in that frame and stranded nine on base for the game.

MIDDLEPORT — Daniel Keer tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out 10 as the Colts shut out the Wreckers in a Schuylkill League Division III contest at Schuylkill Valley Stadium.

Angelo Maskornick went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the first, to pace Marian’s 16-hit attack.

Josh Inama added three hits for the Colts, while Jared Paisley had a pair of RBIs on two hits.

Chris MacNeal picked up Weatherly’s only hit of the game in the first inning.

LANSFORD — Michael Hutt tied the game with an RBI single in the seventh, and Matt Hudicka won it with another RBI single in the eighth as the Panthers edged the Olympians in a non-league, contest.

Hudicka collected two hits and three RBIs while earning the pitching victory with two scoreless innings of relief for Panther Valley.

Jordan McElmoyle had a pair of RBIs on two hits, while Brendan Carroll and Dominic Pompa also picked up two hits for Jim Thorpe.

Sean Greenawalt, Stramara and Robbie Oliver combined on a two-hitter for Blue Mountain.

Stramara had two doubles and pitched three scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. Blue Mountain compiled 11 hits, scoring seven runs in the middle innings to take control.

MILLERSBURG — Kenny Ross had an RBI on two hits, but the Vikings fell to the Indians on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Andrew Underkoffler and Zach Ulsh both had two hits for Williams Valley.

Millersburg pulled off a triple play in the sixth when the Vikings’ batter popped up to the pitcher with runners on the corners. The pitcher threw to third to catch the runner going home, then the third baseman threw to first to complete the rare feat.

PSU-Schuylkill splits DH with PSU-Beaver

Matt Roberts hit a two-run single to lead Penn State Schuylkill past Penn State Beaver 4-2 in the opener of a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference doubleheader at Steidle Field in Pottsville.

Ryan Boyer and Gaetano Visconti tallied two hits and two runs scored, and Visconti struck out seven to earn the win for Schuylkill.

Beaver got revenge in the nightcap, beating Schuylkill 9-2 to split the doubleheader.

Visconti hit a solo homer, and Karlos Joseph had an RBI single for Schuylkill.
