HEGINS — For a while, it appeared Tri-Valley pitcher Taryn Wilson would have to work her way through Tamaqua’s lineup to preserve a slim lead Saturday.

Maddie Horn changed that in a hurry.

Horn hit an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning to lead the Dawgs to a 2-0 shutout over the Raiders in a non-league softball game at Hegins Park.

With Tri-Valley ahead 1-0, Horn’s drive tipped off the center fielder’s glove and rolled to the fence, allowing Horn to come all the way around to score.

Tri-Valley scored its first run in the second. Jordyn Ebersole reached base on a dropped bunt. After Kat Sherry bunted for a single, both runners advanced on a fielder’s choice. Ebersole scored on Megan Boyer’s fielder’s choice to short.

Horn and Sherry each had two hits for Tri-Valley. Wilson finished with a four-hit shutout, striking out seven.

Carly Sassaman had two hits for Tamaqua.
