SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — The errors were piling up on Schuylkill Haven, and Tri-Valley’s Hunter Herb finally made the Hurricanes pay.
Herb hit the go-ahead single to score Mark Klinger in the top of the ninth and lift the Dawgs past Schuylkill Haven 2-1 on Monday in a Schuylkill League Division II baseball game.
The two teams exchanged runs in the fifth inning before Herb’s lethal hit in the ninth.
Klinger led off the ninth with a pinch-hit single before a strikeout and a single by Tyler Lucas. Hunter Bordner then reached on an error — Schuylkill Haven’s fifth of the game — to load the bases for Herb.
Herb had three hits Monday to lead Tri-Valley’s offense. Noah Saul had two hits for Haven.
Hunter Bordner relieved Dawgs’ starter Dawson Schwalm in the sixth and picked up the win after getting through the ninth. Nick Behm pitched all nine innings for the Hurricanes.
The decision lowers Schuylkill Haven’s lead to a one-half game over Minersville in the Division II standings. The Hurricanes and Miners play Friday.
