Facing defeat, Marian dug in deep.
The Fillies trailed Nativity by a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but weren’t throwing in the towel.
Kaitlin Kowker doubled and manufactured her own run to force extra innings and Mackenzie Joy hit a walk-off home run in the eighth to lift the Fillies over the Green Wave 5-4 on Tuesday in a Schuylkill League Division II-III crossover game atop Lawton’s Hill.
Marian was the home team for the contest.
Kowker took advantage of an error to advance and score following her double, pulling the two sides even after Rachael Souchak hit a solo home run in the seventh to give Nativity a 4-3 lead.
Winning pitcher Bethany Shaud, who struck out five, got through the top of the eighth unscathed before Joy’s lead-off homer sent the Fillies celebrating.
