High school track and field roundup for April 29

TAMAQUA — Sophomore Courtney Earnest (100, 200) won two individual events as Blue Mountain clinched the Schuylkill League Division I girls’ track and field title with a 77-73 victory over Tamaqua on Wednesday at the Tamaqua All-Sports Stadium.

Raquel Mabry (110 hurdles), Kathryn Thompson (400), Emily Leymeister (800), Courtney Dukmen (3,200), Alexandria Ferrier (high jump) and Shelby Whiteash (long jump) all won one individual event for the Eagles (6-0, 6-0). The title was Blue Mountain’s first outright division championship since 2011. The Eagles shared the championship in 2013 with Pottsville.

Monika Shimko (1,600, 300 hurdles) and Allison Pedersen (discus, shot put) both took two individual events for the Raiders (3-2-1, 3-2-1).

Nativity, win D-II title

MAHANOY CITY — Emily Pulaski (100, 200, 300 hurdles) won three individual events as Marian (7-0, 6-0) clinched the Division II title with a 102-44 win over Mahanoy Area (5-3, 4-2) and a 116-25 victory over Nativity (1-5, 1-4) in a four-team meet at Alumni Stadium.

Brenna Karnish (triple jump, discus) won two individual events for the Fillies, while Tina Capparell (1,600), Kaylee Ceci (shot put) and Emily Pilla (javelin) won one apiece. Marian’s title is its first outright championship since 2013. The Fillies shared it last year with Pine Grove and Schuylkill Haven.

Megan Babinsky (400), Courtney Levy (3,200), Kathleen Chapman (pole vault), and Samantha Gnall (long jump) won individual events for the Golden Bears, who also defeated the Green Wave 87-53.

Lindsay Lord (110 hurdle) picked up an individual event win for Nativity, which defeated Shenandoah Valley 64-57.

Carly Teaschenko (800) won an individual event for the Blue Devils (0-7, 0-6).

Weathery also competed as an independent.

Marian grabs another D-II title with 2 wins

MAHANOY CITY — Chris Bruno (100, 200) and Mark Buchinsky (long jump, triple jump) won individual events apiece for Marian (7-0, 6-0) as the Colts captured the Division II crown with a 99-42 win over Mahanoy Area and a 111.5-29.5 victory over Nativity in a four-team meet at Alumni Stadium.

Sean Mick (400), Zachary Roberts (800), James Kolbush (300 hurdles) and Nick Sully (javelin) all won individual events for Marian. The championship was the fourth straight for the Colts and seventh since 2008.

Seth Soriano (1,600), Adam Bahrey (3,200), Michael Joseph (high jump) and Marcus Styka (discus) won individual events for the Golden Bears (3-5, 2-4), who beat Nativity 81.5-59.5.

Bill Devers (shot put) won an individual event for Nativity (2-5, 1-4) as the Green Wave edged Shenandoah Valley 68-67.

Kyle Guers (110 hurdles) picked up an individual event win for the Blue Devils (0-7, 0-6).
