MAHANOY CITY — Mahanoy Area scored in four of six innings at the plate and defeated Weatherly 5-3 in a Schuylkill League Division III baseball game Thursday.
Luke Holman had a triple and a single and scored two runs for the Golden Bears, while Nolan Fegley doubled and drove home two runs.
Ryan Hoffman paced Weatherly with two hits and an RBI, but Mahanoy Area pitcher Jason Richmond held the Wreckers to single runs in three innings.
Richmond shut out Weatherly over the final three innings.

HAMPTON, Va. — Held scoreless for the second consecutive game, Penn State Schuylkill fell to St. Joseph’s (Vt.) in a first-round consolation bracket game in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association World Series.
The loss eliminates PSU-Schuylkill from the tournament and ends its season with a 16-13 record.
Tyler Starry has Penn State Schuylkill’s lone hit off St. Joseph’s pitcher Bill Brancatella, who struck out 13 and walked three in seven innings.
Jayson Osborne had three hits and four RBIs for St. Joseph’s.

Area teams to enter District 3 playoffs
HERSHEY — Three area teams have qualified for the District 3 baseball and softball tournaments, announced Thursday.
In Class AA baseball, Upper Dauphin will host Annville-Cleona in a first-round game at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 18.
The winner will visit top-seeded Lancaster Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, in the quarterfinals.
In Class AAA softball, Hamburg earned the 16th and final seed in the bracket. The Hawks will visit top-seeded Donegal at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19.
In Class AA softball, Upper Dauphin is the eighth seed in the 10-team bracket. The Trojans will host ninth-seeded Fairfield at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19.
The winner will visit top-seeded Delone Catholic at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21.
