Wank hired as new Haven girls’ coach
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Josh Wank has been hired as the Schuylkill Haven girls’ basketball coach.
Wank was hired at the school board meeting Wednesday night, the new coach confirmed via phone Friday.
Most recently, Wank was an assistant coach and junior varsity coach at Minersville for the last two seasons. The Battlin’ Miners won two District 11 Class AA championships and a Schuylkill League title during that span.
Wank was the head coach at Panther Valley for four years until 2012, compiling a record of 30-43 with the Panthers after coaching two seasons at Weatherly.
Schuylkill Haven finished last season 7-15 overall, 2-11 in Schuylkill League Division II.
Wank replaces Nick Reichert at Schuylkill Haven and is the fourth Schuylkill League girls’ basketball coach to be hired this offseason.
Legion baseball schedule begins
The Schuylkill-Berks American Legion Baseball League begins its schedule today.
The Senior League opens play with Tulpehocken at Post 625 (formerly Fleetwood) and Wyomissing at Muhlenberg.
A schedule will begin appearing on the scoreboard page daily, but games are expected to change frequently until the high school baseball season concludes.
The Junior League begins play Wednesday, May 27.
Laubach notches
modified victory
at Big Diamond
FORESTVILLE — Quakertown’s Rick Laubach raced to victory Friday night in the 25-lap 358 modified feature at Big Diamond Speedway.
Minersville’s Mike Lisowski took the checkered flag in the 20-lap sportsman feature, while Forestville’s Elvin Brennan crossed the finish line first in the 20-lap roadrunner feature.
