FORESTVILLE — Four divisions attempted to beat the weather Friday at Big Diamond Speedway.
In the end, only the street stocks did it.
With Jonestown’s Rich Bossinger winning the only feature that was finished, the program was stopped after four laps of the 358 modified feature were completed.
The sportsman and roadrunner feature lineups were determined by heats. Because all of the qualifying events were finished, no rain checks will be honored.
Big Diamond promoter Jake Smulley announced Saturday that the roadrunner feature will be held next Friday night.
The sportsman feature will be held during the June 26 program, while the 358 modified feature will be completed July 10.
By the time the rain hit Friday, the fans had watched Bossinger win the 20-lap street stock feature.
Oley’s Craig Von Dohren, the track’s all-time feature winner, took the 358 modified feature lead from his fourth starting spot and paced four laps until the rain hit.
Bossinger scored his first feature victory of the season by leading every lap of the street stock feature.
But the race was filled with caution flags and attrition, which left just five cars of the 11 starters to finish the final 13 laps.
The casualties included points leader Jasen Geesaman, whose car blew its right rear tire to send him to the pits with seven laps down.
From there, Bossinger easily drove to victory in the No. 71K, which parks weekly beside Geesaman.
“I’m just glad we won and it’s not that darn 81 (Geesaman) in victory lane again. But I wouldn’t be running as fast if it wasn’t for him,” Bossinger said after stopping Geesaman’s three-race winning streak at Big Diamond.
Chris Derr, driving a car owned by Geesaman, placed second ahead of Friedensburg’s Jim Somers Jr., Butch Helsel and John Schreffler.
Schreffler, of Lavelle, was driving his first race of the season.
The intermission, including children’s Big Wheel races, was canceled because of the impending storm.
But that did not help because the 358 modified feature contained four caution flags before a lap could be completed.
Von Dohren took control and was trailed by pole-sitter Justin Grim for four laps before the rain quickly forced the cars to the pits.
In heat action, Billy Pauch Jr. won his track-best fifth heat of the season in the 358 modified ranks. Colt Harris and Von Dohren also won qualifiers.
Jeremy Becker and Geesaman took street stock heats. Elvin Brennan and Jim Kost won roadrunner heats. Kris Lilick, Craig Whitmoyer and Mike Mammana won sportsman qualifiers.
Big Diamond will conduct Schuylkill Mall Night next Friday. The 8:15 p.m. program features 358 modifieds, the United Racing Club 360 sprints and roadrunners.
