to lead NW Lehigh
baseball program
NEW TRIPOLI — Duran Porrino has been named head baseball coach at Northwestern Lehigh High School, athletic director Jason Zimmerman announced Monday.
Porrino replaces Leonard Smith, who retired after 33 years with the Tigers. He was Smith’s assistant over the past several years.
Porrino is a graduate of Blue Mountain High School where he played football, baseball and wrestled. He went on to Wilkes University where he continued his football career.
Upon being hired as a mathematics teacher at Northwestern Lehigh High School, Porrino immediately joined the football, wrestling and baseball staffs. Porrino recently married Jayme (Baker) Porrino, a field hockey coach at Northwestern Lehigh.

officiates Big 33
HERSHEY — Mike Carney, of Frackville, was selected to work as a member of the officiating crew at the Big 33 Football Classic that was played Saturday at HersheyPark Stadium.
Pennsylvania defeated Maryland 20-3 in a game that was called off at halftime due to thunderstorms and lightning.
