TEENER LEAGUE: North opens 13-14 VFW All-Star Tourney with win

LLEWELLYN — Mike Little was 3-for-4, including two doubles, to pace Schuylkill North to a 6-4 victory over Schuylkill South in an opening-round game of the VFW 13-14-Year-Old Teener League All-Star Tournament on Thursday evening.

One of Little’s doubles drove in two runs in the top of the first, giving the North (1-0) an early 2-0 advantage. The South tied the game in the bottom of the inning. The North took the lead for good with a single run in the second, and added single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh.

Josh Hayle was 2-for-3 for the North and also drove in two runs, including an RBI single in the fifth.

C.J. Stablum came into the game in the bottom of the first and pitched 4.2 innings of relief to get the win. Brandon Rockwell went 2.1 innings to earn the save.

Kobe Brish was 2-for-3 for the South (0-1), while Ben Kramer’s double drove in a run in the first.

In today’s games, the South takes on the East at Llewellyn, while the West faces the North at Middle port. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.

The tournament then shifts to Llewellyn with four games Saturday and four more Sunday.

East, West suspended in 12th tied at 5

MIDDLEPORT — The all-star opener between Schuylkill East and Schuylkill West was suspended by darkness after 12 innings at Schuylkill Valley with the score tied 5-5.

If necessary, the game will resume Monday, July 20.

J.C. Rodrian was 2-for-4 for the East, with a double and three RBIs.

Iberra, Bohr and Culbert had two hits apiece for the West, which tied the game at 4 with a three-run, bottom of the seventh. Both teams scored a run in the eighth.
