LLEWELLYN — Nick Kreiser’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Schuylkill West defeated Schuylkill North 3-1 in a VFW Area 2 Teener Baseball 15-16-year-old Tournament game Thursday at the Branch Teener League field.

Ty Zimmerman and Dominick Dostick combined on a seven-hitter for Schuylkill West (1-0), with the only run being unearned.

Schuylkill North (0-1) opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when Scott Grigas doubled, stole third and scored when the catcher’s throw sailed into left field.

Schuylkill West answered in the bottom of the fourth when Dawson Schwalm reached on an error, stole second and scored on Dawson Maurer’s RBI single.

Peyton Poletti began Schuylkill West’s game-winning rally with a single, and Jason Soper reached on an error. After a fielder’s choice, Kreiser’s hit put the West ahead to stay.

Zimmerman gave up five hits, struck out three and walked one in five innings of work, while Dostick pitched a pair of scoreless innings for the save.

Josh Jacavage pitched a complete game for Schuylkill North, striking out four.
