Team Pine Grove Wombats won the Junior Division at the recent Pennsylvania State Youth Hunter Education Challenge held at Scotia Range, State College. Team Friedensburg Predators placed third in the Senior Division of the competition that attracted more than 200 entries.
Team Wombats was comprised of Dominick Sgrignolo-Carricato, Brandon Wasser, Ryan Maher, Shane Martin and Gavin Butler. They placed first in shotgun, archery and muzzleloader; second in hunter responsibility and wildlife identification; and third in .22 rifle.
Martin placed first in archery and hunter reasonability and second in muzzleloader; Maher placed first in shotgun and third overall; Butler placed first in wildlife identification; and Wasser placed second in shotgun and .22 rifle. Emily Maher was the overall female winner.
Team Pine Grove Elite was comprised of Emily Maher, Courtney Greblick, Trevor Greblick, Lance Wolfe and Riley Edwards. It placed third in hunter responsibility and wildlife identification.
Team Predators was comprised of Ethan Adam, Angelica Kaledas, Evan Gerhard, Justin Weller and Mike Yob. It placed first in wildlife identification and hunter responsibility. Weller placed third in wildlife identification and hunter responsibility, qualifying for National YHEC in Raton, New Mexico, along with Gerhard and Hunter Heim.
