MOUNT UNION — The VFW 13-14-year-old State Teener Tournament championship game today in Huntingdon County will be decided by two teams from Schuylkill County.

Schuylkill South avenged its loss to Schuylkill North in the Area 2 championship game July 20 with a 21-2, four-inning rout of Schuylkill North in Sunday’s winners’ bracket final.

The victory advanced Schuylkill South to today’s championship round. Schuylkill North joined it later in the day with an 11-4 win over Clearfield.

The two local clubs will square off at 11 a.m. today at Mount Union High School. A second game, if needed, will follow that contest.

Schuylkill North must beat Schuylkill South twice in back-to-back games today to win the crown.

Today’s game will be the fifth meeting of the teams. The North won two of first three games, including the championship game, to win the Area 2 tournament.

In Sunday’s winners’ bracket final, Nate Nabholz led the South’s 14-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with four RBIs. J.R. Hahner added two hits and scored three runs while Parker Zimerofsky had two hits. Kobe Brish scored three runs while winning pitcher Ben Kramer had three RBIs and scored three runs.

Helped by six walks, an RBI single by Hahner and a two-run single by Nabholz, Schuylkill South scored 10 runs in the opening inning.

In the game, the South collected 13 walks and three hit batsmen and benefited from two North errors.

The North gained its first run on Mike Little’s RBI single in the first inning. C.J. Stablum scored in the third on a dropped third strike.
