Elk weekend aids
conservation efforts
Crowds estimated in the tens of thousands attended this year’s Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Elk Expo held in Elk County.
Highlighting the event was the random drawing of elk licenses for elk season that begins Monday, Nov. 2, as well as the drawing for a special bull license awarded by a raffle that allows the winner to participate in a special extended season benefiting the Keystone Elk Country Alliance. It raised $157,150 to benefit Pennsylvania’s elk.
This year 116 elk licenses — 21 for antlered elk and 95 for antlerless elk — were allocated from the 27,592 applicants. With $10 from each $10.70 application fee added directly to the Pennsylvania Game Commission Game Fund, a total of $275,920 was raised to benefit wildlife.
In addition, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation silent auction for a bull license in January sold for $52,500.
