Mattes among Patriots' 3 roster cuts
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots released rookie offensive tackle R.J. Mattes on Monday.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder is the son of former North Schuylkill star and former NFL lineman Ron Mattes, and still has relatives in Ashland and Ringtown.
Mattes, 23, was originally signed by New England as a rookie free agent May 13 out of North Carolina State before being released May 23 and re-signed June 3. He played tackle on the Patriots' second-team offensive line during the team's two preseason games.
