HAMBURG — A stellar defensive effort and a goal by Kylie Kutz gave Blue Mountain the championship trophy of the annual Taylor Seitzinger Memorial Soccer Tournament held Saturday on Hawk Hill.
The Eagles surrendered just four shots on goal in a pair of shutouts, blanking Hamburg 3-0 in the semifinals and Muhlenberg 1-0 in the title game. Lianne Derrick stopped all four shots in goal.
Kutz, a freshman, scored the game-winner in the championship game in the first half unassisted. Jacey Miller, Abigail Fanelli and Kelley Mayberry found the back of the net in the semifinals as Blue Mountain improved to 3-0-1 overall.
Muhlenberg reached the championship round with a 5-1 win over Eastern York in the semifinals. In the consolation game, Hamburg defeated Eastern York 4-1.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Rieley Reed, Briana Felty, Cassondra Smith and Andrea Slotterback tallied goals as the Penn State Schuylkill women’s soccer team notched the first victory in program history in a Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference contest.
Reed, a sophomore from Tri-Valley, opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Felty, a freshman from Pine Grove, followed two minutes later with a goal from 30 yards out.
A Williams Valley grad, Smith made it 3-0 at the 27-minute mark off an assist by Reed, while Slotterback, a sophomore from Schuylkill Haven, upped the lead to 4-0 in the 65th minute.
Goalkeeper Megan Boyer, a freshman from Tri-Valley, stopped 11-of-12 shots for Penn State Schuylkill (1-1, 1-0 PSUAC).
