Jim Thorpe upsets Pottsville

JIM THORPE — Jim Thorpe’s girls’ volleyball team scored its biggest win so far under first-year Victoria Nichols on Monday.

Erin Shigo posted 14 kills and 11 digs as the Olympians surprised Pottsville 26-24, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22 in a Schuylkill League Division I match.

Jim Thorpe (4-3, 2-2 D-I), which had lost 24 consecutive sets against Pottsville since 2011, ended the skid with its first-set victory.

Mackenzie Rosenberger, who had six digs, and Jillian Peterson each had four kills for Jim Thorpe. Alexandra McGinley had 20 digs, Joclyn Day had 11 digs and Kelsey Carroll recorded 21 assists.

For Pottsville (3-3, 2-2), which lost its second straight match, Kyra Schenk had five kills, seven blocks and three aces. Emily Zelinsky had five aces, four digs and three kills. Megan Skosnick posted 20 assists.

Pottsville won the JV match 2-1.

North Schuylkill 3

Lourdes 0

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — Leanna Gregas posted seven kills and a block to lead North Schuylkill to a 26-24, 25-16, 25-14 sweep of Lourdes in a Division II match.

The Spartans (3-3, 2-2 D-II) added six kills from Grace Major. Bria Hocking served five aces and Vanessa Ferraiolo added 25 assists.

Lourdes (0-6, 0-4) was paced by eight aces by Jessy Stankavage. Maya Yoder added three kills and Liz Alexander had three digs.

North Schuylkill won the JV match 2-1.

Blue Mountain 3

Lehighton 0

LEHIGHTON — Nicole McQuillan recorded six kills, five digs and two blocks as Blue Mountain swept Lehighton 25-12, 25-16, 25-12 in Division I action.

Ashley Snesavage added 19 assists, four kills and three aces, while Christie Challenger had four kills for the Eagles (6-0, 4-0 D-I).

Alyssa Jordan finished with nine kills and two aces, Tori Eads-Rodriguez added 14 assists and seven digs, and Katie Higgins posted 12 digs and three kills for the Indians (3-3, 2-2).

Blue Mountain won the JV match 2-1.

Minersville 3

Williams Valley 0

TOWER CITY — Emily Bartashus posted 11 kills and five digs to give Minersville a 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 Division III-IV crossover sweep of Williams Valley.

Erica Nettles recorded eight kills and 11 digs, Maura Bentz had 18 assists and three aces, and Meg Schwalm added 26 digs for the Battlin’ Miners (6-1, 5-1 D-IV).

Jenna Daniels led the Vikings (0-7, 0-5 D-III) with five kills and five service points, Rylie Thomas had five assists and four service points, and Savannah Slough added seven digs.

Minersville’s JV team won 2-0.

Tri-Valley 3

Shenandoah Valley 0

HEGINS — Kathryn Sherry posted 15 service points, one dig and one ace, and Reagan Newswanger added 12 service points, 14 assists and four aces to lead Tri-Valley over Shenandoah Valley 25-15, 25-19, 25-12 in Division III-IV crossover action.

Cat Troutman had six service points, two aces and two digs for the Bulldogs (6-0, 5-0 D-III), while Maddie Deibert added 12 service points and three aces.

Alaina Demalis led the Blue Devils (1-6, 1-5 D-IV) with 22 digs, Marcella Creasy had four digs, and Allison Wargo added four digs.

Tri-Valley won the JV match 2-0.

Halifax 3, Weatherly 0

HALIFAX — Emily Miller posted seven kills, while Jordyn Ashberry added 12 assists, four digs and three aces as Halifax topped Weatherly 25-15, 25-11, 25-11 in a Division III-IV crossover contest.

Kendall Lehman finished with five kills, four aces and three digs, and Kourtnee Pottiger recorded four aces for the Wildcats (6-1, 4-1 D-III).

Alexis Hartz led the Wreckers (2-6, 1-5 D-IV) with two kills and four digs. Samantha Andreuzzi had two aces and three blocks, and Emily Zoscin added three digs.

Weatherly won the JV match 2-0.

Mahanoy Area 3

Millersburg 0

MILLERSBURG — Desiree Malacusky compiled 10 kills, 10 service points, five aces and two blocks as the Golden Bears swept the Indians 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 in a Division III-IV crossover match.

Jennie Neifert added six kills, six service points and two aces for Mahanoy Area (5-2, 4-2 D-IV), while Mickayla Backo had nine kills and 10 digs. Mychaellah Lucas contributed 27 assists, while Sydney Gnall tallied 19 digs.

Taryn Herb had 15 kills, four blocks and four digs for Millersburg (2-4, 1-4 D-III), while Emily Schade collected 18 assists and three digs. Cassidy Prince added four kills.

Mahanoy Area won the JV match 2-1.

Upper Dauphin 3

Schuylkill Haven 0

ELIZABETHVILLE — Kelsey Hoffman posted six kills, six aces and six digs, and Laura Sweger added six kills, four blocks and one ace as Upper Dauphin rolled to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-15 Division III-IV win.

Alexis Weaver recorded four kills, four digs, three assists and two aces for the Trojans (6-2, 3-2 D-III), and Mickayla Grow had 12 assists five digs and three aces.

Madison Felty led the Hurricanes (1-8, 1-5 D-IV) with seven kills and six blocks, Madison Deegan had five digs, and Tori Pascucci finished with eight digs and three aces.

Upper Dauphin won JV 2-1.
