Blue Mountain stays undefeated

ORWIGSBURG — Jordan Skoff recorded 10 kills, seven digs and one block as the Blue Mountain girls’ volleyball team remained unbeaten Tuesday with a 25-15, 25-9, 25-22 win over Panther Valley in a Schuylkill League Division I-II crossover match.

Maya Throne tallied 22 digs and five aces, while Nicole McQuillan collected six kills and two blocks for Blue Mountain (7-0, 5-0 D-I).

Losing its second match in two days, the Panthers (5-2, 3-2 D-II) were led by Jamey Mikovich’s eight kills, five blocks, 15 digs and two service points.

The Panthers also gained three kills and three aces by Chloe Markovich, who served 11 points. Christina Dacey added three kills and two service points.

Panther Valley’s junior varsity team won 2-1.

Marian 3, Pottsville 0

Abby Stankiewitch and Maureen Kloap compiled 11 kills apiece as the Fillies swept the Crimson Tide 25-8, 25-13, 25-17 in a Division I-II crossover in the boys’ gym.

Kloap added four aces and six digs, while Danielle Spillman totaled 12 digs for Marian (5-2, 5-0 D-II), which took a two-game lead in Division II.

Pottsville’s Kyra Schenk collected three kills, six blocks and two aces, Becca Sites added two kills and two blocks and Madison Sherakas tallied two kills, two digs and three aces for the Crimson Tide (3-4, 2-3 D-I).

Pottsville won JV 2-1.

Jim Thorpe 3

North Schuylkill 0

JIM THORPE — Jim Thorpe scored its fourth consecutive victory with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 sweep of North Schuylkill in a Division I-II crossover match.

Erin Shigo served six aces for the Olympians (5-3, 3-2 D-I), while Jillian Peterson had three kills and Alex McGinley posted 15 digs.

For North Schuylkill (3-4, 2-3 D-II), Leanna Gregas had 18 kills and four aces. Grace Major posted nine kills, six digs and four blocks, while Vanessa Ferraiolo had 34 assists.

Jim Thorpe won JV 2-0.

Lehighton 3

Pine Grove 0

LEHIGHTON — Katie Higgins compiled 21 kills, 15 digs and three aces as the Indians swept the Cardinals 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 in a Division I-II crossover.

Tori Eads-Rodriguez added 26 assists, three aces, five kills and two digs, Alyssa Jordan contributed 10 digs, three aces and four kills and Andrea Schafer tallied two aces, two kills and 10 digs for Lehighton (4-3, 3-2 D-I).

Pine Grove fell to 1-5, 1-4 in Division II.

Lehighton won JV 2-0.

Tamaqua 3, Lourdes 1

TAMAQUA — Carly Kosciolek had 11 kills and four blocks as Tamaqua rallied for a 17-25, 25-9, 25-9, 25-18 triumph over Lourdes in a Division I-II crossover match.

Deidra Ressler had six kills and three blocks for the Blue Raiders (3-4, 1-4 D-I). Paige Triano had 17 assists while Alexis Baddick posted five kills, four aces and two digs.

For Lourdes (0-7, 0-5 D-II), Jessy Stankavage had six aces, Liz Alexander posted seven digs and Francis Czeponis had four kills.

Lourdes won JV 2-1.

Minersville 3, Halifax 0

MINERSVILLE — Erica Nettles collected eight kills, 12 digs and two aces as the Battlin’ Miners earned a 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 sweep over the Wildcats in a Division III-IV crossover match.

Meg Schwalm collared 26 digs and three aces, Reiley Lonergan compiled six kills and six blocks and Maura Bentz finished with 11 assists for Minersville (7-1, 6-1 D-IV).

Brianna Turner and Emily Miller registered four kills apiece, Jordyn Ashberry contributed eight assists and Ella Starr had nine digs for Halifax (6-2, 4-2 D-III), whose loss allowed Tri-Valley to keep the division lead despite its setback at Nativity.

Minersville won the JV match 2-0.

Williams Valley 3

Shenandoah Valley 1

SHENANDOAH — Williams Valley earned its first victory of the season as Jenna Daniels had eight kills and six digs in a 17-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 victory over Shenandoah Valley in a Division III-IV crossover match.

Rylie Thomas had 10 assists for the Vikings (1-7, 1-5 D-III). Brittney Drey served 10 points and had eight digs. Morgan Matter served 12 points.

Marcella Creasy compiled 14 kills, nine points, four aces and four digs for the Blue Devils (1-7, 1-6 D-IV). Alaina Demalis contributed 22 digs, and Allie Wargo registered 20 points, three aces and six digs.

Shenandoah Valley won the JV match 2-1.

Upper Dauphin 3

Weatherly 1

WEATHERLY — Laura Sweger had 16 kills, three blocks and two digs as Upper Dauphin topped Weatherly 25-23, 23-25, 25-12, 25-12 in a Division III-IV crossover match.

Kelsey Hoffman added three aces, eight kills and eight digs for the Trojans (7-2, 4-2 D-III). Alexis Weaver contributed five kills and 13 digs, while Madissen Miller had six aces, five kills, two assists and 14 digs. Mickayla Grow had 27 assists, Alexis Bowser had six aces and 13 digs, and Grace Miller had 12 digs.

Alexis Hartz had eight kills, six digs and five service points for the Wreckers (2-7, 1-6 D-IV), while Megan McClintock collected eight service points, Kim Carter notched six service points, Emily Zoscin tallied four digs and Samantha Andreuzzi had four blocks.

Upper Dauphin won JV 2-0.

Millersburg 3

Schuylkill Haven 1

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Taryn Herb had 14 kills, three aces, two blocks and five digs as Millersburg defeated Schuylkill Haven 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19 in a Division III-IV match.

Emily Schade had 18 assists for the Indians (3-4, 2-4 D-III) while Lexy Fisher added two kills and three digs. Karleen Bell added three kills and two digs. Cassidy Prince added four assists.

Maddy Felty posted 23 kills, 13 service points, five aces and three blocks, while Ashley Ferrando added 30 assists, 14 service points and six aces for the Hurricanes (1-9, 1-6 D-IV). Kaitlyn Tinari finished with seven service points and two digs.

Central Penn 3

PSU-Schuylkill 1

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Katherine Shaud registered four aces and five kills, but Penn State Schuylkill dropped a 25-14, 25-12, 25-27, 25-10 non-conference match to Central Penn.

Michelle O’Dell collected 23 assists, Kristina Johnson totaled 11 kills and Hayley Wolff finished with seven kills and 13 digs for the Nittany Lions (4-3).

Lions’ Stoner earns conference honor

Penn State Schuylkill freshman Marla Stoner, a Pine Grove graduate, was named the PSUAC Female Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 22.

Stoner compiled 103 kills, five kills, 10 aces and 45 digs over 18 sets last week. She averaged 5.72 assists per game as the local Lions went 4-2 over the weekend.

Boys’ Cross Country

Hawks drop pair

to Wilson, Wyomssing

HAMBURG — Wyatt Conrad finished fifth to pace the Hawks in losses to the Bulldogs and Spartans.

Gabe Fitser (15th) also scored for Hamburg. Wyomissing’s Jack DeCinto finished first in 17:33.
