HSFB: Tri-Valley tops EJ, sets up title showdown

BEAVER SPRINGS — Jaden Buchanan ran for one touchdown and passed for another to lead Tri-Valley to a 23-14 Tri-Valley League victory over East Juniata on Friday night.

The Bulldogs’ victory sets up a showdown between Tri-Valley and Newport for the Tri-Valley League championship next week at Hegins.

While Tri-Valley is 7-0 in league play, Newport also remained unbeaten in the league with a 63-14 win over Halifax on Friday.

Against East Juniata, the Bulldogs trailed 14-9 when Ashton Buchanan took a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jaden Buchanan in the third period to put the Bulldogs ahead 16-14.

Chase Schaeffer, who had 90 yards rushing in the game, then scored the fourth period’s only touchdown for Tri-Valley.

Jaden Buchanan also ran 1 yard for a Tri-Valley touchdown in the opening period.

Chris Schulgen threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Mason Hambright for East Juniata.

FARWELL — Marcus Renninger rushed for 63 yards and a 5-yard touchdown, but the Green Wave dropped an All-American Football Conference game to the Bucks.

Bucktail’s Josh Marr returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, but Nativity’s Stephen Elberfeld answered by returning the Bucks’ kick 87 yards for a score.

The game remained tied until just before halftime, when Bucktail’s Brice Cannon kicked a 27-yard field goal. The Bucks then used a fourth-quarter touchdown run by Mike Casper to pull away.

Mifflinburg junior running back Brayden Pierce set a career high with 251 yards rushing on 29 carries, including touchdown runs of 61 and 70 yards.

Shamokin gained touchdowns from Preston Burns, who ran 1 yard, and Wes Shurock, who ran 2 yards.
