The Tamaqua Area High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its 18th class into the Hall of Fame prior to tonight's Anthracite Football League contest against Shenandoah Valley.
Seven former Tamaqua standouts will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at approximately 6:40 p.m. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
This year's class includes: Christa DeAngelo, Randi Wagner Brady, Tracy Smudin Earhart, Amanda Fenkner, Megan Inama, Travers Schmidt and Casey Wagner.
Christa DeAngelo Class of 1995
DeAngelo was a standout basketball player, earning four varsity letters and graduating as the program's fifth leading scorer all-time with 1,082 career points. She is currently ninth on the list.
She scored 447 points and led the Blue Raiders in rebounding her senior season, was a member of two District 11 playoff qualifiers and earned Allentown Morning Call and Lehighton Times News all-star honors her junior and senior seasons as well as the MVP of the Pa. Hoops Round Ball Showcase.
DeAngelo attended Park University (Parkville, Mo.), earning a bachelor of science in psychology. She served in the Army and Texas National Guard and is an Iraq war veteran. DeAngelo has three children, Iris, Priscilla and Parker, and resides in Saint Augustine, Fla.
Randi Wagner Brady Class of 2001
Brady was a four-sport standout at Tamaqua, earning 12 total letters in swimming, track and field, cross country and tennis.
She qualified for the PIAA state championships in cross country, swimming and track, and upon graduation, Brady held five school records in swimming and one in track. She was also part of the school-record setting 3,200-meter relay team (9:46.25), a record that still stands.
In swimming, Brady was a member of the 1998 Schuylkill League championship team. She was a two-time Schuylkill League champ in track as a member of the 3,200 relay, earning a silver medal at the District 11 championships and a fourth-place finish at the PIAA meet.
Brady attended West Chester University, graduating cum laude in kinesiology in 2006. She resides in Phoenixville with her husband, Kevin, and the couple have two daughters, Karter (2) and Averi (4 months). Brady is a health and physical education teacher at Graystone Academy.
Tracy Smudin Earhart Class of 2001
Earhart was a four-year letterwinner on the girls' basketball team, scoring 1,017 career points. She is currently 10th on the all-time scoring list.
She was a member of three straight District 11 playoff qualifiers and played on the first 20-win team in 14 seasons when the Raiders finished 23-6, played for the district title and reached the PIAA Eastern quarterfinals. Earhart was a captain her senior season, helping the squad to a 22-4 mark, earning first-team All-Schuylkill League honors.
Earhart continued her education at East Stroudsburg University, earning a bachelor of science in health and physical education and her masters degree from Wilkes University. She is currently a health and physical education teacher in the Weatherly Area School District, where she serves as the head junior high girls' basketball coach.
The daugher of Gary and Shirley Smudin, Earhart and her husband, Damien, reside in Quakake.
Amanda Fenkner Class of 2004
A four-year letterwinner in basketball and track, Fenkner scored 1,112 career points. She currently ranks eighth on the program's all-time scoring list.
Fenkner was a member of three teams that qualified for the district playoffs and a pair that reached the state tournament. As a senior, Fenkner was named to the Republican-Herald, Morning Call, Times News and Hazleton Standard-Speaker All-Area teams as well as earning Blue Ridge TV's Female Athlete of the Week and Schuylkill Senior Charity Bowl game MVP.
In track and field, Fenkner participated in the triple jump, long jump, 100 and 400-meter relay.
She attended Alvernia University, playing basketball for the Crusaders and graduating with degrees in business marketing and sports management. Fenkner has worked as a sales executive for the Philadelphia 76ers and director of sales and ticket operations for the Washington Redskins.
The daughter of Sheila Davison and Bill Fenkner, she resides in Silver Spring, Md., and recently accepted a position at an executive search firm in Virginia.
Megan Inama Class of 2008
A standout member of the soccer and track and field teams, Inama earned eight varsity letters.
In soccer, she scored 33 career goals and led the 2007 team to a 20-1-1 record and the Schuylkill League title. As a senior, Inama was the Republican-Herald Co-Player of the Year and a first-team selection to the Times News All-Area and Schuylkill League Division I all-star teams. During her four years on the soccer team, the squad finished with a 56-27-2 record.
Inama's track teams went 32-0 in dual meets, winning four straight Schuylkill League titles. She was a four-time PIAA state qualifier, participating in the 400-meter relay, 1,600-meter relay, long jump, triple jump and 200. During her track career, Inama finished 10th at states in the long jump, second in the 400 relay, third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. She was a Schuylkill League champ in the 100, long jump and triple jump and earned multiple District 11 medals.
Inama attended King's College, securing a bachelor of science in athletic training. She was a three-year starter for the soccer team and was the program's scholar-athlete in 2012. She furthered her education at the University of Virginia, earning a master's in kinesiology in August. She currently works as an assistant athletic trainer at Lebanon Valley College.
The daughter of Kathy and the late Francis "Spirit" Inama, Megan is engaged to Mark Streisel and resides in Nesquehoning.
Casey Wagner Class of 2008
Wagner was a standout on the Blue Raiders' tennis, basketball, track and field and softball teams during her career.
She played No. 1 singles in tennis all four years. In basketball, Wagner scored 1,151 career points and is seventh on the all-time scoring list.
In track, Wagner was a standout javelin thrower, winning two District 11 gold medals placing fifth, fourth and second at states. She also competed in the 1,600-meter relay, winning a district title and silver in that event.
She continued her education on a track and field scholarship at the University of South Florida, throwing javelin, and was named to the women's Division I All-Academic team several times. She placed third at the Big East Championships as a senior and is the school record holder with a throw of 160 feet, 4 inches. Twice Wagner received the USF Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year Award.
Wagner graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in physical education. She currently resides in Quakake.
Travers Schmidt Class of 2008
Schmidt was a three-sport standout in football, swimming and baseball, earning 12 varsity letters.
He was a captain and all-purpose player for the football team, playing quarterback, running back and linebacker and earning All-Anthracite Football League, Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association, Standard-Speaker and Times News All-Area honors. As Tamaqua's salutatorian, Schmidt was named the Schuylkill Chapter No. 25 Football Scholar-Athlete, becoming just the third Tamaqua athlete to earn the award.
In swimming, Schmidt was a captain and District 11 silver medalist as a member of the 200 medley relay team, which set the school record in 1:44.77. He also earned bronze in the 50 freestyle as the Blue Raiders earned the District 11 silver medal and captured the Schuylkill League championship. Schmidt was also a member of the record-setting 400 freestyle relay team and was named Republican-Herald Male Swimmer of the Year.
A four-year starter for the baseball team, Schmidt played outfield, catcher, first base and pitcher, leading the team in batting average as a junior and senior and leading the 2005 team to the District 11 silver medal. He was the Times News Player of the Year and the Reading Eagle Anthracite Region Athlete of the Year in 2008.
Schmidt continued his athletic and academic careers at Cornell University, playing football for the Big Red and graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in biological engineering.
Schmidt is currently employed in the management development program at Brooks Instrument in Hatfield. He resides in Milford Square.
