Williams Valley outlasts Miners

MINERSVILLE - Cody Miller had a game-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers, as Williams Valley opened the season with a 46-41 victory over Minersville in a Schuylkill League Division II contest Friday.

Collin Hashin led the Miners with 20 points, including six 3-pointers.

Minersville was held scoreless in the final 2 minutes of the game as Miller, Ben Rautzahn and Stephen Sedesse combined for four free throws to seal the victory.

Mahanoy Area 52 Shenandoah Valley 26

SHENANDOAH - Larry McNeil and Brian Miller each scored 12 points in the Golden Bears' Division III victory over the Blue Devils.

In his first game back from injury, Dylan Mahmod scored six points and had a slam dunk for Mahanoy Area, which jumped out to an 18-3 lead after the first quarter.

Angelo Maskornick led the Blue Devils with a game-high 16 points, going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Tri-Valley 29 Schuylkill Haven 16

HEGINS - Conrad Opozda scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs to a Division II victory over the Hurricanes.

Opozda scored Tri-Valley's nine fourth-quarter points while Jaden Buchanan tallied six of his eight points in the third quarter.

Austin Charles led the Hurricanes with four points.

Pottsville 58 Governor Mifflin 44

SCHILLINGTON - Travis Blankenhorn poured in a game-high 20 points to pace four Crimson Tide players in double figures in their non-league victory over the Mustangs.

Jordan Melochick added 14 points for Pottsville, while Eli Nabholz had 12 and Connor Hinchliffe 10. The Tide got out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and led 26-19 at halftime.

Conrad Weiser 68 Pine Grove 28

ROBESONIA - Kobe D'Agostino scored a team-high 10 points for the Cardinals in their non-league loss to the Scouts.

Cartier Palford scored 14 points and teammate Andy Orr had 13 for the Scouts, who led 40-10 at halftime.

East Juniata 72 Upper Dauphin 51

McALISTERVILLE - Mac Ney led Upper Dauphin with 13 points and Joe Trently hit three 3-pointers but the Trojans fell to the Tigers in a Tri-Valley League contest.

Bailey Coder scored 27 points and Nick Lorenz totaled 23 for East Juniata.

Tamaqua 67 Southern Columbia 36

CATAWISSA - Brett Kosciolek scored 27 points and went 7-for-8 from the free- throw line to lead the Raiders to a non-league victory over the Tigers.

Bo Rottet and Joe Marcin added nine points apiece and Russell Blaker hit a big 3-pointer for Tamaqua, which outscored Southern 40-16 in the second half.

Tulpehocken 46 Hamburg 41

HAMBURG - Josh Kisha scored a game-high 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and teammate Patrick Barter recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Hamburg as it lost to Tulpehocken in a non-league boys' game.

Robert Ekball scored 15 points and Joey Olkusz added 13 for the Trojans in the win.

Down by nine in the fourth quarter, the Hawks cut the lead to four, but Tulpehocken used foul shots to pull away with the victory.

Girls' Basketball Hamburg 34 Tulpehocken 24

NEW SCHAEFFERSTOWN - Sydney Lesher and Kassidy Lesher scored eight points apiece, while Hannah Schoenly and Nikki James each added seven as the Hawks downed the Trojans in non-league contest.

Taylor Boyer accounted for half of Tulpehocken's points, tallying 12.

Hamburg outscored the Trojans 24-14 in the second half after the game was tied at 10 at intermission.

North Schuylkill 64 Shamokin 23

SHAMOKIN - Nadya Spotts, Carly Gregas and Tiffany Lapotsky each tallied 11 points for the Spartans in their non-league romp of the Indians.

North Schuylkill jumped out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter, and raised the advantage to 36-13 at halftime.

Chase Stokes added eight points for North Schuylkill, which had eight other players score in the game.

Panther Valley 43 MMI 39

LANSFORD - Madison Blasko scored 15 points, including two 3-pointers, to power Panther Valley past MMI in a non-league girls' game.

Macey Markovich added three 3-pointers and tallied 11 points for the Panthers.

Kristen Purcell had a game-high 18 points for the Preppers in a losing effort.

College women PSU-York 74 PSU-Schuylkill 53

YORK - Molly Carduff scored a game-high 28 points for Penn State Schuylkill but it wasn't enough in its Penn State University Athletic Conference to Penn State York.

Hannah York scored 20 points for PSU-York in the win.

College men PSU-York 91 PSU Schuylkill 72

YORK - Kenford Lynch scored a game-high 31 points for Penn State Schuylkill in its PSUAC loss to Penn State York.

Josh Jamison scored 16 points for PSU-York in the win.

H.S. Wrestling Trojans go 3-0 at UDA Duals

ELIZABETHVILLE - Conner Boyer (106/113), Cody Snyder (132/138), Jackson Kennerly (145/152), Joe Becker (182) and Trey Campbell (195) each recorded three falls as Upper Dauphin went undefeated in Friday night's UDA Duals.

Devon Hoffman (132/138) had two pins and a decision, while Coy Campbell (113) added a pair of falls and a forfeit win as the Trojans beat Littlestown 63-16, Columbia 57-22 and Shamokin 66-12.

Only four teams participated in the tournament, which was rescheduled from today to Friday due to weather.

Eagles finish 1-4 at PM Gauntlet

ORWIGSBURG - Hunter Blankenhorn (106) was a perfect 5-0 as Blue Mountain went 1-4 at the PM Gauntlet.

The Eagles defeated Crestwood 55-21 and lost to Hughesville 48-30, Downingtown East 58-12, Pleasant Valley 38-31 and Scranton 50-24.
