Battlin' Miners hand Marian 1st loss

MINERSVILLE - Senior Reighly Melochick had a game-high 18 points as Minersville knocked off unbeaten Marian 47-31 in a Schuylkill League Division II-III crossover matchup Thursday night.

Freshman Abby Schoffstall joined Melochick in double figures with 12 points as the Miners (10-1, 6-0) used a 15-5 first quarter run to gain control over the Fillies (9-1, 5-1). Freshman Emily Mealey added eight points for Minersville.

Savanna Krusinsky led the Fillies with six points.

Pottsville 57 Panther Valley 26

Sadie Cresswell had a game-high 15 points to lead the Crimson Tide to a dominating Division I victory over the Panthers at Martz Hall.

Cresswell scored 11 of her points in the third as Pottsville opened the quarter on a 15-0 run. The Crimson Tide defense stymied Panther Valley in the third, holding a 30-3 scoring advantage.

Julie Bulino added 12 points and Alyssa Kondrack chipped in with 10 for Pottsville.

Madison Blasko led Panther Valley with 14 points.

Jim Thorpe 40 Tamaqua 32

TAMAQUA - Gabby Binder poured in 17 points, including eight in a pivotal fourth quarter that keyed the Olympians to a Division I victory over the Blue Raiders.

Jim Thorpe outscored Tamaqua 12-5 in the fourth quarter. Alexis Naranjo added 12 points for the Olympians.

Paige Demetriades led the Blue Raiders with 12 points, followed by Vanessa Solt (9) and Emily Pratka (8).

Lourdes 62 Mahanoy Area 26

COAL TWP. - Rachel Schutz poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the Red Raiders to Division II-III rout of the Golden Bears.

Bailey Trell added 13 points for Lourdes, which used an 11-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter to go up 25-12 at halftime.

Macey Brown had 11 points to lead Mahanoy Area.

Nativity 56 Tri-Valley 42

HEGINS - Allison Warrren had a game-high 18 points and Keegan White 12 to lead the Golden Girls to a Division II-III victory over the Dawgs.

Emily Field scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter as Nativity held a 20-13 scoring advantage to put the game away.

Brittany Smeltz had 15 points for Tri-Valley.

Williams Valley 73 Weatherly 49

TOWER CITY - Rayanne Hawk and Cassidy Pinchorski combined for 45 points to pace the Vikings past the Wreckers in a Division II-III crossover contest.

Hawk had 25 points and Pinchorski 20 as they also teamed for five of the Vikings' seven 3-pointers in the game. Hannah Nestor added 13 points for Williams Valley, which led 46-22 at the half.

Lexi Hartz had 13 points and Shelby Berger 12 for Weatherly.

Shenandoah Valley 47 Schuylkill Haven 26

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Kristina Nieddu netted 20 points and Abigail Snitzer 18 as the Blue Devils rolled past the Hurricanes in a Division II-III crossover contest.

Emma Schweigert and Alyssa Gerber had eight points apiece for Schuylkill Haven.

Conrad Weiser 52 Hamburg 43

ROBESONIA - Sydney Lesher tallied a game-high 18 points, but the Hawks dropped a Berks Section II game to the Scouts.

Lesher scored 10 of her points in the first half as Hamburg built a 24-20 halftime lead. Conrad Weiser took control in the second half, closing with a 16-9 run to secure the win.

Kassidy Lesher added 12 points and Hannah Schoenly netted 10 for the Hawks.

Juniata 63 Upper Dauphin 31

ELIZABETHVILLE - McKenzie Miller and Taylor Brown scored eight points apiece as the Trojans dropped a Tri-Valley League decision to the Indians.

Whitni Rudisil added six points for Upper Dauphin, which was outscored 22-4 in the third quarter.

Boys' Basketball Blue Mountain 68 Jim Thorpe 29

ORWIGSBURG - Will Bornstein scored all of his game-high 19 points in the first half as the Eagles rolled to a Schuylkill League Division I rout of the Olympians.

Skyler Panchari added 14 points for Blue Mountain, which led 40-16 at halftime.

Lourdes 50 Salem Christian 42

UPPER MILFORD - Jordan Fobia paced three Red Raiders in double figures with 16 points and nine rebounds in their come-from-behind, non-league victory over the Eagles.

Larry Czeponis added 15 points and Kenny Pawelizyk 11 for Lourdes, which fell behind 15-7 after the first quarter but held a 43-27 scoring advantage the rest of the game to pick up the victory.

Conrad Weiser 74 Hamburg 25

HAMBURG -Andy Orr scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Scouts to a Berks Section II victory over the Hawks.

Patrick Barter netted eight points and Nicholas Schlottman added six for Hamburg.
