Eagles top North Schuylkill to break deadlock in Division I ranks

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - Will Bornstein and Kyle Slane each scored 15 points, while Skyler Panchari added 13 as Blue Mountain took sole possession of second place in the division with a 55-44 victory over North Schuylkill in a Schuylkill League Division I contest Tuesday.

The Eagles surged to a 29-18 halftime lead and held off the Spartans to win their third consecutive game.

Freshman Major Jordan paced North Schuylkill with 10 points.

Minersville 59 Weatherly 25

MINERSVILLE - Collin Hashin had a game-high 13 points as the Miners rolled past the Wreckers in a Division II-III contest.

Shamiek Bethea added eight points, while Aaron Fritz and Dylan Ellinger netted seven apiece for Minersville, which jumped out to a 42-12 lead the half.

Josh Reiner led Weatherly with eight points.

Nativity 65 Schuylkill Haven 48

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN -Jeff Yordy exploded for 30 points as the Hilltoppers cruised past the Hurricanes in a Schuylkill League Division II-III crossover game.

Kyle Kaledas (13) and Tyler Hunyara (10) joined Yordy in double figures for Nativity, which used a 19-7 third quarter to pull away from Schuylkill Haven.

Mike Ulsh had 16 points and J.T. Hughes added 13 for the Hurricanes.

Pottsville 73 Jim Thorpe 25

Travis Blankenhorn and Jordan Melochick had 16 points apiece as the Crimson Tide posted a dominating Division I win over the Olympians.

Kevin Hampford added 12 points and Connor Hinchliffe chipped in with 10 for Pottsville, which opened the game on a 21-8, first-quarter run.

Shenandoah Valley 52 Lourdes 49

COAL TOWNSHIP - Angelo Maskornick led all scorers with 19 points to lead the Blue Devils to a narrow win over the Red Raiders in a Division II-III crossover contest.

Ian McCole connected on five of Shenandoah's 10 3-pointers to tally 15 points. Kayin Herb added 12 points, consisting of four 3-pointers.

Jordan Fobia led the Red Raiders with 18 points.

Marian 42 Tri-Valley 27

HEGINS - Anthony Agosti scored 10 points and Marian turned a 26-14 halftime lead into a victory in a Division II-III crossover matchup.

Agosti scored all of his points in the middle quarters as Marian held a 13-4 scoring edge in the second quarter. Dominic Mussoline added nine points for the Colts.

Tri-Valley was led by Jerricho Zemencik's 10 points.

Tamaqua 61 Panther Valley 38

TAMAQUA - Bo Rottet scored 20 points to lead three double-figure scorers as Tamaqua rolled past Panther Valley in a Division I contest.

Adam Frantz added 16 points and Zach Wargula posted 12 for the Blue Raiders, who outscored Panther Valley 25-6 in the fourth quarter.

Jake Szczenica and Kyle Ferryman each scored 12 points and Luke Stano had 10 for the Panthers.

Schuylkill Valley 54 Hamburg 45

LEESPORT - Josh Kisha scored 13 points, while Pat Barter and Nick Schlottman added 11 apiece for Hamburg in its Berks Section II loss to Schuylkill Valley.

Evan Hargrave had 15 points to lead the Panthers, who took a 26-20 halftime lead.

Girls' basketball Nativity 67 Wyomissing 36

Keegan White scored 10 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter as Nativity cruised to a non-league victory atop Lawton's Hill.

Allison Warren and Erin Luckenbill added 14 points apiece for the Golden Girls, who led 25-9 after the first period.

Hamburg 40 Schuylkill Valley 35

HAMBURG - Kassidy Lesher scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half as the Hawks prevailed in a see-saw battle with the Panthers in a Berks League Section II victory.

Sydney Lesher added 10 points, including four clutch free throws in the final frame for Hamburg, which has won three consecutive games.

Women's basketball PSU-DuBois 78 PSU-Schuylkill 64

DuBOIS - Penn State-Schuylkill got some additional offensive help as it ended its Christmas break with a loss at Penn State-DuBois.

Minersville graduate Lauren Leshko joined the Lions and contributed 14 points for Penn State-Schuylkill, which trailed by 10 points at halftime. Teammates Molly Carduff and Sarah Celani led the squad with 23 and 17 points, respectively. Dominique Grasso added 14 points.

Penn State-DuBois was paced by 18 points from Mary Pillot. Kristy Hanes added 13 points while Patience McCullough and Kiley Lewis each tallied 12.

Men's basketball PSU-DuBois 65 PSU-Schuylkill 57

DuBOIS - Arlen Brewer scored 13 points, Derrick Williams added 12 and Shakeal Brown contributed 10 to lead Penn State DuBois to a victory over visiting Penn State Schuylkill.

The winners used a 24-12 scoring edge at the foul line to take the win. Penn State DuBois led by eight points after the first half.

Kenford Lynch scored 19 points and Genaro Epifanio added 16 for Penn State Schuylkill.
