Local schools to sell advance playoff tickets Fightins dinner slated for March Nittany Lions set for NFL Combine

Mahanoy Area and Pottsville will be selling advance tickets for next week's Schuylkill League basketball playoffs.

Tickets for Pottsville's boys' and girls' playoff games will be sold during school hours in the high school main office. Tickets for the boys' game will be sold Monday and Tuesday while tickets for the girls' game will be sold Monday through Wednesday.

At Mahanoy Area, tickets for the school's boys' game will be sold from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the high school office.

Advance tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens (62 and over). All tickets at the door will cost $5.

READING - The Reading Fightin Phils will hold the Meet the Fightins Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Reading Crowne Plaza.

The event will feature the introduction of the roster of the Class AA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, including manager John Wathan and his coaching staff. Wathan, pitching coach David Lundquist and hitting coach Rob Ducey will participate in a question-and-answer session. A raffle and silent auction also will be held.

In addition, Charlie Flannery, coach of the Gregg Post American Legion baseball team and Reading Hot Stovers Banquet chairman, will be crowned King of Baseballtown, a ceremony which was postponed from its original date in January. Ticketholders from that event who still have their original tickets will be admitted with those tickets.

Tickets cost $65 per adult and $25 per child and are available by logging onto Fightins.com, by calling (610) 373-BALL and by visiting the FirstEnergy Stadium ticket office.

STATE COLLEGE - Three members of the 2013 Penn State University football team have been invited to participate in the National Football League's 2014 Scouting Combine on Feb. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, wide receiver Allen Robinson and offensive guard John Urschel will participate in the event, which will be televised on the NFL Network.

Jones led Penn State with 11.5 tackles for loss and was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Robinson ranks second in career receptions at Penn State with 177. Urschel was an All-Big Ten lineman for the second consecutive season.

The NFL Draft will be held from May 8-10.
