PSU-Schuylkill women win

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Schuylkill Haven graduate Sarah Celani scored all 13 of her points in the second half and Molly Carduff posted 31 points as Penn State Schuylkill pulled away for a 68-45, non-league victory over Valley Forge Christian on Saturday.

After PSU-Schuylkill held a 24-22 halftime lead, Celani tallied seven points as Penn State Schuylkill outscored the Patriots 16-4 to begin the second half and pulled away to its second win of the season.

Carduff, who scored half of her team's field goals, came up two points shy of her season scoring high and posted 15 rebounds. Lauren Leshko added 10 rebounds for the Lions, who won hours after a 42-38 loss at Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Mikala Brinson scored 17 points and Amanda McGinness added 16 for Valley Forge Christian, which dropped its 14th consecutive game.

Boys' Basketball North Schuylkill 68 Marian 46

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS - Matt Manbeck paced four Spartans in double figures with a game-high 16 points as North Schuylkill downed the Colts in a non-league contest in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Tevin Murray (13), Bobby Grigas (11) and Jake Damiter (10) also reached double figures for the Spartans, who outscored Marian 43-25 during the second and third quarters to pull away for the victory.

Dominic Mussoline led the Colts with 11 points and Nick Wesner chipped in 10.

Both teams are headed to the District 11 playoffs, the Spartans in Class AA and Marian in Class A.

Nativity 63 Pocono Mtn. Chart. 38

TOBYHANNA - Jeff Yordy unloaded 13 of his game-high 32 points in the first quarter on the way to a blowout, non-league victory for the Hilltoppers.

The big first quarter gave Nativity a 27-16 lead after the opening frame. The Hilltoppers outscored Pocono Mountain Charter 28-17 in the middle quarters.

Palmerton 66 Tamaqua 54

PALMERTON - Bo Rottet had a game-high 22 points but it wasn't enough as slow start doomed the Blue Raiders in a non-league loss to the Blue Bombers.

Brett Kosciolek added 14 points for Tamaqua, which fell behind 18-7 after the first quarter and 34-18 at halftime.

Girls' Basketball Pine Grove 49 Kutztown 25

PINE GROVE - Becky Evans recorded a triple-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals in the Cardinals' non-league win over Kutztown.

Evans added nine assists in her 58th consecutive game scoring in double digits.

Morgan Edge added 10 points for Pine Grove, which led 25-9 at halftime.

Hannah Bankes led Kutztown with 14 points.

Williams Valley 52 Line Mountain 34

TOWER CITY - Cassidy Pinchorski hit six 3-pointers for a game-high 27 points in the Vikings' non-league win over the Eagles.

Kate Whelski, Rayanne Hawk and Haley Nestor all finished with seven points apiece for the Vikings, who used a 27-10 edge in the middle quarters to pull away.

Jim Thorpe 58 Weatherly 35

JIM THORPE - Gabby Binder scored a game-high 21 points and Alexis Naranjo added 19 as the Olympians beat the Wreckers in a non-league game.

Jim Thorpe led by 10 at halftime before using an 18-5 edge in the third quarter to pull away.

Shelby Berger and Tea Heister led Weatherly with nine points each - both getting all their points from 3-point range.

Central Columbia 53 Tamaqua 19

TAMAQUA - The Blue Raiders fell in an early 18-2 hole after the first quarter and lost to the Blue Jays in a non-league game.

Vanessa Solt led Tamaqua with eight points.

Muncy 49 Lourdes 43

COAL TOWNSHIP - Rachel Schultz tallied a game-high 18 points and Caitlyn Funk added 10, but it wasn't enough as the Red Raiders fell to Muncy in a non-league game.
