Upper Dauphin clinches D-II crown

ELIZABETHVILLE - Upper Dauphin gained three falls in the final four bouts of the match and clinched the Schuylkill League Division II wrestling championship Tuesday night with a 48-29 victory over Jim Thorpe.

Repeating as division champions, the host Trojans (12-6, 6-0 D-II) held a 30-23 lead when Upper Dauphin's Coy Campbell (113 pounds), Cheyne Oren (120) and Devon Hoffman (126) gained consecutive pins to pull away from the visiting Olympians (8-9. 3-2).

Upper Dauphin, which trailed 14-6 after four bouts, took the lead to stay with back-to-back wins by Ryan Straub-Fisher, who pinned at 170, and Joe Becker, who took a forfeit at 182.

The winners added falls by Trey Campbell (195) and James Wilkinson (285).

Jim Thorpe was paced by pins from Cameron Condly (152), Justice Batts (220) and Ali Capobianco (132).

Williams Valley 45 Halifax 34

TOWER CITY - Alex Raho pinned Eric McBurney in 50 seconds to boost Williams Valley (8-11, 5-1 D-II) to a Division II victory over Halifax (4-19, 3-3).

The Vikings won three of the five contested bouts as the other weight classes were forfeited.

In addition to Raho's fall, Williams Valley gained a decision by Travis Martin, who avoided a fall for the final 1:40 of his match at 160 to win 12-11, and a pin by Noah Crisswell at 195.

Halifax won the night's first four weight classes, including a major decision by Glenn Enders (126) and a pin by Cade Wilbert at 132.

Panther Valley 51 Tamaqua 18

TAMAQUA - Panther Valley won eight of the first nine weight classes to take command in a Division I victory over Tamaqua.

The Panthers (6-10, 2-3 D-I), who took five forfeits, were paced by pins from Gary Goodhile (106) and Zackary Glassic (138).

Tamaqua (1-17, 0-6) gained falls from Collin Moyer (182), Colin Mashack (126) and Dylan Rynkiewicz (132).

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT - Rallying from a 23-6 deficit on the host's mat, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech (5-13) won three straight bouts to take the lead and then took four in a row to close the meet and outscore the Mountaineers.

Scoring 36 points through forfeit wins, CMVT was paced by pins from Kale Yacko (126) and Nick Kocan (160).

South Williamsport was led by falls from Zach Manning (132), Dominick Threeton (145), Nathan Jones (152), Mike Steinbacher (195) and Noah Hartley (285).

Girls' Basketball Juniata 59 Upper Dauphin 30

MIFFLINTOWN - Carly Burns scored a game-high 20 points as Tri-Valley League champion Juniata finished its conference slate unbeaten with a win over the Trojans.

Taylor Brown scored eight points to lead Upper Dauphin, which will host Veritas Academy in the opening round of the District 3 Class A playoffs next Wednesday.

Boys' Basketball Pocono Mtn. Char. 67 Gillingham Charter 37

NEW PHILADELPHIA - Isaiah Thompson scored a team-high 18 points as the Wolf Pack dropped their season finale to Pocono Mountain Charter.

Nate Woodling added 10 points and Romeo Murray tallied nine for Gillingham Charter, which finished 0-10.
