PIAA schedules times, sites for basketball quarterfinals

Four area high school basketball teams survived the first round of PIAA playoffs this past weekend.

Now they know where they will be headed for their second-round contests after the PIAA released sites Sunday.

Three teams will play Tuesday.

In girls' Class AA, District 11 champ Minersville (26-1) will take on District 12 champ Neumann-Goretti (26-0) at 6 p.m. at Freedom High School in Bethlehem.

The Battlin' Miners opened with a 55-36 victory over Central Columbia, while Neu-

mann-Goretti downed Camp Hill 74-36.

In boys' Class AAA, District 11 runner-up Pottsville (24-5) faces District 3 champ Susquehanna Township (20-7) at 7:30 p.m. at the Geigle Complex in Reading.

The Crimson Tide opened the a 58-38 rout of Lower Moreland, while Susquehanna Township downed Imhotep Charter 65-47.

In boys' Class A, District 11 champ Mahanoy Area (25-2) will battle District 1 champ Church Farm (24-4) at 7:30 p.m. at Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg.

The Golden Bears had no trouble with Galeton in their first-round game, winning 57-20, while Church Farm beat Lebanon Catholic 59-38. This is a rematch of a second-round game from last season, won by Church Farm, 42-36.

Then on Wednesday, District 11 champ Marian's girls (25-2) take on District 2 champ Old Forge (20-3) at 6 p.m. at Hazleton Area High School.

The Fillies beat Northeast Bradford 47-23 in their first-round game, while Old Forge downed Harrisburg Christian 52-27.

Martz Hall will also host doubleheaders Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday, District 3 champ York Catholic (24-4) takes on District 2 champ Dunmore (25-2) in a Class AA girls' game at 6 p.m. Then in a Class AAA boys' contest, District 3 third-place finisher Bishop McDevitt (27-2) faces District 11 champ Allentown Central Catholic (28-0) at 7:30 p.m.

There is a pair of Class AAA girls' games Wednesday at Martz Hall. District 3 champ West Perry (22-5) takes on District 2 runner-up Abington Heights (17-10) at 6 p.m., while District 2 third-place finisher Holy Redeemer (19-5) faces District 3 fourth-place finisher Fleetwood (24-5) at 7:30 p.m.
