Local Lions drop pair

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Penn State Schuylkill showed a little rust Tuesday, stepping onto a diamond for the first time all spring.

The Lions lost to Penn College 6-1 and Genessee Community College 11-0, opening a spring break trip to South Carolina.

Pine Grove graduate Bryan Dimon led Penn State Schuylkill with three hits and a run scored through both games.

Penn College was led by James Simasek, who finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Minersville graduate James Brophy added a hit and a run in one at-bat.

Pine Grove's Ryan Boyer was tagged with the loss.

Dimon had the lone hit in the second game against Genessee Community College pitcher Ryan DiMartino, who struck out 10 batters in five scoreless innings.

Penn State Schuylkill continues play in South Carolina against Lancaster Bible College today and West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday. It plays Ursinus on Friday.
